Hi guys

Can you please advise as to which is the best detector that covers GPS and also radar and laser (and also the best affordable one)?

Currently I use Tom Tom with the camera sites uploaded, but I would like some real time protection.

Many thanks

I've got a road angel which is pretty good, minimal false alerts and has the gps link for the 'blackspots', cameras etc. It's also shouted 'laser, laser' at me twice when Wilts sneaky motorcycle cop was hiding behind a bush and a lamppost with his camera.

However, hasn't the new law been passed making detectors illegal?

i'd been asking myself the same question. Having had an original road Angel, which I thought was pretty good I was thinking about an Origin B2, anyone any thoughts on that??

Hi ya - I've got an Origin B2 and it's superb. Never once has it been wrong, and if you update it regurlarly (once a week) it's even accurate for temp cameras and specs sites in road works etc. The only drawback is that you do have to wire it into the car properly unlike the RoadAngel which is very easy to just plug in and stick to the window. There's a Solo model which does improve this by not having to have a separate GPS antenna though...I bought mine years ago when they had just replaced the original Origin Blue devices. Best £400 I ever spent. And now they're about £250 so a real bargain.

J.

Oh and I forgot to mention...it comes with a Laser detector attachment which will become illegal but it's not a problem...you just unplug it and don't install that attachment to fully comply with the law.

I know it is in France and frowned upon in a

'confiscate the car type way'

but not yet illegal here just yet

The government tried to ban detectors in the late 90s. The judge threw out the claim for making them illegal, because under the wireless telegraphy act (think it was dated 1878 but could be wrong on the date), no part of the signal from the laser / radar was being interfered , reconstructed, or deflected in any way by the detector, and therefore as it simply alerted the driver to the prescence of a signal, it was deemed lawful to have. I would find this argument difficult to circumvent without an awful lot of statutory work by the government so all this talk about them being imminently banned is quite franky scaremongering chinese whispers.
