Hi - I'm new here - this site was recommended on the Audi TT forum as being a good place for the following query:

A friend of mine passed a couple of officers with a hand-held laser/radar gun today. He was well above the limit when he saw them but obviously slowed down and wasn't stopped. Does this mean he's safe or could he get a nasty suprise in the post?

if a nib comes through he should do what alot of other people are doing(i.e put his name down as the driver and send it back unsigned).it might have been a radar with a camera system as they dont have to stop you, just get a shot of you coming with your speed.

Thanks. But if there was not camera attached to the gun, do they have to pull you over there and then? Also, regardless of whatever they *have* to do, what is normal practice?

If no camera's attached, then theyd have to pull you there and then...how else they gonna point out the "error of your ways"?.....
Usually a camera attached tho, and the little tinkers(for want of a better word) will then kindly send you a demand for whatever figure pops into their seive likes, and a nice 3 or more points depending on how they feel.......

normally with a standard radar gun they will signal you to pull up for either a warning or a ticket,if they got a reading but your mate was going too fast to stop then he would have been stopped by a traffic car as they are sometimes parked a little further down the road.

i wouldnt be suprised if your mate was caught by a radar camera, where did it happen?

No he was going very slowly by the time he got to them in order to have a good look what was going on!! It was a hand-held gun - do they have cameras fitted?

It was on the A40 leaving London, just after the elevated section.

seems a strange place to have a speed trap,as there is a camera between the elevated section and scrubbs lane(i think its near the bus stop, but its been a while since i last went to white city)

if they got a reading,it could have been from upto a mile away(on that section of the a40) so slowing down doesnt realy help much.

yes, they can be fitted with camera's but hopefully there was no camera on the gun.

then im afraid all he can do is wait as im sure they would have had a clear shot at him for a reading as he came over the brow of the elevated section before he would have spotted them.

very sneaky move from plod.

maybe he should invest in a defusser and detector!

bear in mind that it only takes 1/3rd of a second to get a reading and even in the "best of 3" terms it would take just 1 second to get a reading.

Its pretty usual that they would stop you if they didnt have a video van with them.

maybe Madcop can enlighten. its just from my experience that i post the above!

I did a fly-by on one, very similar situation, not much above the limit when I passed, never heard anything more from them.

Good thing to as the sneaky git jumped out from behind a bush!
