Let me explain.

Whilst driving to work today down a normal dual lane road ( 1 carrigeway each way) 40 mph limit traffic was doing 30 mph. 1 car ahead of me had already started overtaking the general traffic doing 30 mph.

I was behind a vehicle and whilst travelling at 30 with an approximate gap of 150m between him and the car in front of him went to over take. There was no traffic coming the other way.

As I pulled level with him, he put his foot down. I hadn't expected this so accelerated a little bit harder so enable me to get back on the correct side of the road.

I should state that we were now about 700m away from a roundabout and the traffic started to slow down. It was at this point I noticed in my rear view mirror the driver getting a small digital camera out and take a photograph of the rear of the car.

He was wearing a collared white shirt with what appeared to be blue "things" on the shoulders. He may have been BiB going to work as the shirt was not fully buttoned up or a private security chap.

So questions,

If BiB is he going to get someone to come and see me? Will I have to produce documents? Why did he accelerate just to get justification to take a photo.

If not BiB he can get my address easily for a couple of quid, should I be worried?

I have written all the details down just in case but I really do wonder why he closed the gap.

Any thoughts or ideas, cheers.

Alex.

So he has a picture of the back of your car taken by a hand held camera, even if he is a BiB how is he going to prove any offence?

surely if he took the photo whilst driving he then incriminates himself by not being in full control of his own vehicle at that moment in time? putting upon himself the risk of being prosecuted!

No. Almost guaranteed the only police force he's a member of is the self-appointed one upholding their own made-up laws. You might want to browse that "moron's war on drivers" name-and-shame site that cropped up a few months ago in case you're suddenly on there, though!

Some comfort can be taken in that there's a chance that one day, either,

a) He'll do it to the wrong person, the overtaking car will screech to a halt and four 6'2 skinheads wielding iron bars/two police officers/etc. will climb out.

b) One day the overtaker will pick a marginal 'take and something will come the other way. This is the thing I do wonder about with the people who accelerate when overtaken. If they manage to create a situation where another driver is facing an oncoming car and has no gap to pull back in to, where do they think that driver is going to go? (Hint: they probably won't go for the head-on collision.)

Yes, exactly.

It probably wasnt a real BiB just a jumped up **** who works as a 'security guard' in the local ASDA.

In order to fuel his sense of self-riteousness that you should not have the audacity to overtake him he has put his foot down obiovusly to put you at risk of having an accident and sh***ing you up.

To cap it all off he has broken the law by getting his phone in his hand and then not worried about his own driving so much at what is now over the speed limit with you both needed to brake that he wants to spend his time taking a photo of you.

When he gets to work and he can use his 'powers' against someone else who cant fight back then he will have got it out of his system and will be now looking for his next victim.

In the 1% chance that he follows this up in any way you will indeed be able to put forward that story as you have stated, and you will indeed be a witness to his Dangerous Driving case, and also mobile phone use case!

I'd think it would simply be a record of the number plate for future reference or entry into the database.

One pic can't prove speeding, it'd be a rare occasion it could even prove dangerous driving on its own.

Numpty driver (I don't think it's police either) probably believes it's safer than writing the number down, and is too thick to be able to remember it.

Off topic sorry but that reminds of a Drivetime radio show where the DJ (might even have been Johnnie Walker) asked people to email in with what they were going to get up to on Friday night.

One reply went along the lines of, "I'll meet up with some mates, we'll have a bite to eat, then all dress up in very similar looking gear, black overall, lots of pockets, heavy boots, and yes we all have No 1 haircuts, then we'll pile into the motor and cruise around looking for trouble. We are, of course police officers."

Made me laugh anyway.

An internet search for your registration number will most likely show up in time if this idiot has indeed posted details on some saddo website. If he tries to do anything officially I suggest it might/should/hopefully lead to a can open worms all over place scenario.... for him.

Report a guy who tail-gated you and was waving a phone about (phone...sure to be more emotive response that way) trying to take pictures.

Hah!

Funny enough, I did the same, but that was because a number of years ago, some muppet accelerated while I was overtaking him on a long straight NSL stretch, he closed the gap causing me eventually to have to brake hard and slot in behind him. I took his number and reported him.

He was driving a burgundy Escort!!

Looser then - I had some Irate tt drive into the back of me when I over took them! Then shot off when I jumped out of the car (mini - minor dent in boot). Canned it after him but was gone by the time I work out what had happened - flagged copper down - and explained nothing came of that either.

Indeed. Could be someone who is intending to stalk you... Definately report it, for the dangerous driving etc.. as well.
