70mph limit 3-lane A road.
VASCAR over 1/4 mile, police car sitting on hard shoulder
Clocked at 105.6mph
Police car pulled out and followed then pulled me over.
Went through the procedures and was asked if I had anything to say as they wrote the ticket.
I let them know I didn't think I was travelling that fast and that I had only accelerated to move out of the way of a motorbike behind me that was sitting on my bumper, and I was aiming for a gap in the centre lane.
They acknowledged this, and wrote on the back of the ticket, that a bike was noticed during the entire filming period.
I did notice the police car, but couldn't brake, as the *%$£ing bike was so close to my bumper. He got off scott free and was even sitting in front of me as I was pulled over
From pepippoo I see it could be a ban or 6 points and a fine. The Policeman was very friendly and recommended I speak to the citizens advice bureau (or solicitor specialising in motoring offences) as soon as I receive the court summons.
I was made to sign the ticket and provide a thumb print.
I did not receive a copy of the ticket, which I thought was strange.
I currently have zero points on my licence. I did have an SP50 for doing 90 on the motorway but these were recently removed from my licence.
I don't know how long it will take to receive a summons. I'm just hoping that if I do end up receiving a ban that it will not clash with Le Mans of the track days I have already booked
Do court summons normally take a while to come through? Ids there anything in my case that might determine whether I get points or a ban?
Oh, and which will increase my insurance more, a ban or 6 points?
Many thanks

If you were not issued with a FPN, then you will not have been given a copy of anything other than a Mis100 (producer) if they wanted to check your docs and you did not have them with you.
Officers will have taken enough details from you in their notebooks or on the report form to process the offence without having to give you any paperwork. An NIP is needed but this is done as standard practice in a verbal warning at the time you are stopped. You might have a follow up written NIP in the post but this is not necessary if it was given verbally. Verbal NIP = "You will be reported for consideration of the question of prosecuting you for....."
In my experience, the summons will arrive within the next 4 to 8 weeks and probably for a hearing in about 3 to 4 months time depending on how busy the court diary is.

Not really that funny.
Lofty Liebchen .. a ban will hurt your insurance more than the points .. but shop around when it come to renewal all the same. Und explain circumstance which will be on record from any trial notes.. if trial go pear shaped. You may escape ban if the police mention the bike as they should if they already noted it. But it depend on the mag on the day I suppose ..
Hope it work out OK for you evenutally .. und shop around for decent legal advice. Some firms give a free consult.
Thanks guys.
I noticed a ban will stay on my licence for a year longer than points as well.
However it's a bit strange that with the current system, if I were to get caught with the same offence again, it would almost be better to receive a ban now instead of points, as I'd have a clean licence with enough space to accept several traffic offences.
But if I had six points now, then received another six points I'd automatically have my licence suspended for six months under the totting up rules. I would be distraught if I lost my licence for an extended period.
(Vixpy - don't laugh. You'll be my taxi to the pub EVERY night if I do receive a ban! Now where's my PF ticket?)

Bad luck. Just think of it as an inconvennience - a tax on speed.
My summons took 3 months to come through. You have to decide whether you think a solicitor will help your position or not? If you are going to plead guilty with usual mitigation - regret/need car for work you have to question the need for a solicitor. I was pretty sure I was getting a ban (110mph) so why pay out more money for the privilege. IF you plead guilty at the outset your fine will be reduced by 1/3 and is likely to be £100-400. A solicitor will cost you more than that again.
However, if you feel you have a chance of getting 6 points rather than a ban - which at 105 is a possibility with good mitigation IMO - a good motor solicitor is probably worth the money. Key to your mitigation is going to be "extreme hardship", i.e. do you NEED your car for work. If you manage to get 6 points rather than a ban you will probably recoup the solicitors cost through next years insurance premium increase. I would definitely speak to a solicitor and get their (free) opinion. Also - highly recommend www.5ive-o.com for advice.
Good luck.

So you had a motorbike tailgating you, therefore equalling your speed, and then no doubt exceeding it after you pulled over, yet the Police decided to pull you and not the biker?
How odd.
Will be interesting to see the video. Maybe you could argue that you were concerned for your safety, and that of the loony biker, and you had no where else to go?

At that speed I should think that a suit, a suitable attitude and appropriate apologies along with your possible mitigation from the dangerous driving by the biker you might have a chance.
My brother-in-laws girlfriend just got off a ban for doing 103 but she had the added benfit of waterworks...

I understand it is quite ofton the case that the police man writing out the ticket, if you own up, will put down a figure of less than 100.
Say 97.
has this happened to any one,
I got caught at 106 mph on the M40, by a camera van.
Went to court expecting the worst, very apologetic (grovel...me?), smartly dressed and explained that I had sold the car because I realised that it was getting me into trouble (they liked that) and that I needed my licence for my line of work and I also went through traffic and weather conditions.
All true and factual but like I say...very apologetic.
End result was a £250 fine and 6 points.
It did change the way I drive from then onwards, I am more respectfull of speed limits in certain situations but I still enjoy "making progress" when I feel its safe to do so.
(Which is different to having my sports bike absolutely FLAT early one morning many years ago!)

I was stopped after being tailed by an unmarked police car who advised that i'd averaged 106mph over a quarter of a mile along the A10.
Both Coppers looked round the car, chatted in general, then said at that speed I would face a ban, but on this occassion as it was a clear dry road and the car was capable of safely performing at this speed, they would issue me with a verbal warning and no further action would be taken.
There is a God.

Or all of those.
A fine, yes - Penalty Level 3 = £1000 maximum.
But its 3-6 points OR upto 56 day ban, not both..
I got both. If this was incorrect, then maybe they owe me 6 points?

has this happened to any one,
I was alledgedly caught at 99.33 a week after buying the 911, in a 60, they wrote down the side of the ticket, on the front "we observed much higher speeds but only registered 99.33"
they recon I hit over 140mph when i just pulled out and overtook a slow moving vehicle, on a wide country lane, in good weather.
obviously I wasnt, and asked if they thought their Vascar equipment was faulty, as it only said 99.33, which I also doubt i was doing.
