in Bristol. Just got home to find 8 cars in the road have been clamped for having out of date tax discs Looked at a couple of them, one of which was valid til the end of March. Seems like the usual use of a pile driver to crack a small nut. I know I've left it longer than that before now, when I haven't quite got round to it.

Oh that reminds me I've got a heap of spare parts to SORN.

I got a ticket once for having tax three weeks expired. And the reason was I'd lost the MOT and the garage were being slow with the replacement, but that wasn't a good enough excuse

No it's not but the crazy thing is that as long as you buy it before the start of the next month you pay the back dated tax immediately.

However, it is illegal to have a vehicle on the public highway without tax. No ifs or buts.

You can always get a new MOT within a couple of days if necessary.

BILL

We've also got a numberplate scanning van that checks against DVLA records for road tax and lets the cops further down the road to pull you over. Better take up burglary, no punishment for the first offence apparantly.

Yeah i think so - Its a public place so it counts as a road or something like that

Guy near me, with a motley collection of old cars on his drive, put a Fiat 126 on the (very wide) pavement outside his house with a "For Sale" sign in it.

They clamped it......

I have sympathy for those who genuinely forget to renew their tax etc but as for those who deliberately try to avoid paying it . I know we moan about the cost of owning a car these days but why should some get away with paying less than the rest of us?

Bollox to them. Take their cars away and crush them. Liklihood is that if they aren't bothered about taxing their cars then they probably aren't to worried about insurance either.

While i agree that those of us who pay OUR side of the tax burden do so, its not particularly hard to see why others , dont.
Take this as an example. My car is taxed, insured and Mot'd,always has been. But just look at the costs incurred by a car owner.
All of the things above plus, camera tax, con tax,car park tax, etc etc etc.
The scally who goes out and buys a 50 quid banger then rides it round with none of the above.
He cant be done for scamera tax, car park tax road tax insurance .
So who's the the smartest i wonder?
I fear it isnt us, the payers.
Untraceable motoring for the 21st century......
Oh and not forgetting to put on a cloned plate either for good measures!
