Hi all

here in Malta we don't get points for speeding etc, just a fine. A friend got a ticket yesterday for going through a red light - the cost ??

speeding - Lm 30 (about £50) - cameras apparently trigger at the speed limit
parking - Lm 10
red light offence - Lm 5 !!!!!

I couldn't believe it - its considered less of an offence than a parking violation - no wonder driving standards are so low here in Malta !

I didn't even think you bothered to switch on your traffic light at night on Gozo, never mind bothering to see if anyone goes through it!

hey, we have 4 traffic lights !

OK, so its only one junction

amazingly, given the general state of driving here, the observation of red light laws is normally very good - its the rest thats needs sorting out

no-one uses indicators
the horn is only used to say hi
there is no breathalyser on the island - drunk driving is the norm (and I don't mean after a couple of beers, I mean after a very full session)
more cars have one headlight working than two

oh yes, there are speed cameras in Malta (the mainland) but not Gozo - they would last only a couple of days before being hit by shotgun !

I love the way the Maltese roads go all slippy when it rains! Makes for even more interesting driving.

Last time I was there I don't seem to remember seeing more than a handful of traffice lights. Of course that was amost ten years ago.

:cough: Hmmm...there's not been that many shootings in Nottingham - it's still a safer place than London, and it's not as dirty / smelly as a lot of cities.
