Discussion
hi folks, bit of advice needed - many thanks in advance...
The tax on my mini runs out at the end of May, and i'm due to pick up my Lotus sometime towards the end of June. i don't need to drive at all, and in the days pre DVLA's big brother computer I would have probably not taxed the car and just risked the one trip down to Leatherhead to pick up the new one (v. naughty I know)
But now I obviously need to do something..
so, do I declare it SORN (and abide by this of course), which would make sense but will cause me a problem of how to gwt my car to the dealership to PX. Or, do i tax it and claim back the unused tax?
I know the second option is the legal, and proper way to do things, but i've never had to claim any tax back before and I don't know how easy it is, and I'm also concerned that the dealership might expect to keep the 6 months I put on the car.
It may sound tight, but changing cars is costly enough without handing over 6 months RFL! (as it is, I put two new front tyres on last month - D'oh!)
cheers
Richard

Would the dealer accept the PX in early, say, just before the tax expires?
I was thinking this - iconviences me slightly, but might be the easiest option. The car is being farmed off to a local mini dealer, so it wouldn't be in their way...
probably the least stressful.
they might even give you a courtesy car for the time between?
Speak to the dealer, they should have some trade plates so SORN your mini off road have a word with your sales exec get him to come meet you & do the handover at your crib he'll drive your mini back with trade plates on. only thing is he'll be driving your new car before you!
Either that or tax your car as per & redeem the tax disc later, as least that way you'll have an excuse to go for a burn in your new motor.
