I was driving through a 20mph limit yesterday when I spotted a policewoman with a hair dryer, checking speeds. Nothing wrong there. BUT her car, indeed she was standing, in a private car park, belonging to a Church. Later on I saw her move position, and park her car up, hidden, in a private field.

Are they actually allowed to do this? I hear its not illegal for them to hide their cars. She was in a marked car, and in uniform. It was good to see them doing speed checks along that dodgy stetch of road.
But is it legal to park their cars on private land to conduct these speed checks? scratchchin

Not without permission . . . and it also begs the question would you allow a police car to park in your hypothetically secluded driveway to catch speeding motorists - I guess it would depend on the circumstamces. btw - I have given permission in the past for our work premises to be used as a base for Police surveillance purposes
