Just on the new that a biker has been nicked at 170 mph, as Cambridge started their biker awareness scheme.

Wonder if this will make a high profile case for someone?

I dont know the road but 170mph is a bit excessive, given that others around him just wont be expecting someone to be moving that fast.

Yawn. We weren't there so who's to know how dangerous it was? Perhaps there were no others around him to expect someone to be moving that fast, perhaps that's why he was going for a little harmless (yes no harm was done) burn up?

Of course that a speed trap had been set up points to a good, safe, straight bit of road with excellent visibility, because that's the kind of location speed businesses make the best profits from so I'm betting it wasn't unduly dangerous. Superbikes can reach that sort of speed in the wink of an eye and be back to slower speeds just as quick.

However....

Now that he's on record with his leathers on his bike with his helmet, can plod stop him in the future as fitting the description and make the case stick?

Looks like a lie from the scp to help publicise their latest spin machine, I doubt the rider even exists. Have you seen a sports bike rider in that colour mix ? They're usually as colour coordinated as the lycra clad suicide-cyclists and Graham Norton

Nah, he's a publicity message, not realo.

It was the A47 on a sat afternoon (and a bank holiday), its hardly going to be quiet is it?

There is no way this can be defended. At that speed you cannot see 2 or 3 miles ahead and you will be at that point in a very short time.

On an track/airfield the only danger is to yourself, on a public highway on a sat afternoon just plain stupid.

Does anyone drive looking that far ahead? I've hit 180 on a mile long runway where you couldn't see the end of the runway due to the topography, but still managed to stop before rocketing off the end.

So presumably they found the dangermeister in a ditch up the road then? Or are they suggesting that some sort of paranormal time warp in space time happened on this occasion meaning he didn't turn inside out? Just like every time someone does an innocent little squirt up to 150/160/170/180mph on a quiet stretch....

Let the record show it can be defended by me and probably countless others who live in the real world. What about PC169'er testing his vectra? He defended himself quite well IIRC, maybe this biker was in posession of the same skills? Maybe he was testing a new bike? Maybe he WAS PC169'er himself? Who knows...

Not many dead, nothing to see here, move along please...

At 170 3 miles down the road is a minute away; I'd imagine that thing can get from that speed to stopped in what, 10 seconds (based on 5th gear on Monday, they said that bike could do 160-40 in 4 seconds, so conservative guess here)? So thats a little under a quarter of a mile that he needs to be able to stop.

I think people hear 170 and think OMG mainly due to the speed brainwashing that's been going on. Like has already been said no-one was hurt. Personally if he's got away with it then good on him.

Let's see the police cram their efforts into catching him rather than the local scrote burglars. rolleyes

Hang on, "This person was riding beyond the capabilities of conditions - both road and sensibility.". How can they come out with this prescribed crap? You could maybe argue sensibility, but who says he was beyond the road's limits?

If I was the EDP editor I'd have written:

SCP bosses: "We want our money!"

Yesterday SCP bosses were fuming as they lost hundreds of pounds in speed tax when they failed to identify a motorcyclist travelling at 170mph. "It's criminal, at that speed we would expect to have charged him several hundreds of pounds", said Frank Smith, SCP boss, "You wouldn't expect to pick up a wide screen television from Currys and then walk right out of the door without paying would you so why should this be any different?" Although the SCP still managed to collect several thousands of pounds from hundreds of other speeding motorists in their one hour shift (during which time no accidents were witnessed), they felt they would have turned a profitable day into a record breaker if got the bike's number.

Alright, alright maybe the 2/3 mile comment was rubbish

The fact still remains that it was inappropiate speeding. 170 on a deserted road early morning with no other traffic presents less danger than on a sat afternoon on a bank holiday.

We also don't know if it was a sustained 170 or a quick blast to 170.

And just because no one was injured or killed doesn't mean it was justified.

It makes me laugh how people can assume the road MUST have been busy -this is NORFOLK p! -I was on the A47 sat afternoon on the way home from work and it wasnt very busy*...

....its perfectly possible that there is someone doing 170mph right now, in Germany, perfectly legally yikes

* wasnt me tho! havent even got a bike at the mo...

How can you say it was inappropriate, when in the next paragraph you admit you have no idea what the circumstances are?

I like the way police are appealing for witnesses. They make it sound like a murder investigation. 170mph is rather naughty on a public road but if noone was hurt then I can't see why they're jumping about quite so much. Had an old duffer pulled out of a side-road at 5mph into the path of a bike doing 30mph, causing injury to the biker, it would have never made the news. Even though that this behaviour (pulling out of junctions without looking) is much much more dangerous than going fast in a straight line. It shows how screwed up the SCPs priorities are!
