If I committed Burgulary, arson ,murder, rape, abh, gbh, common theft, fraud, intimidation or any one of a hundred other offences.

I`d be just as likely to be caught and prosecuted as I would be if I committed an offence in my car.

NO WAIT.......Thats not right.banghead

Wonder what will happen when we`re all on bicycles.

You're much more likely to get away with a motoring offence than you are murder.

Did I hear a bicycle bell ring, or is just the onset of tinnitus?

Sorry you see it that way.
I see it more as a modern life statement, and it is still a democracy.

Wrong.

Actually I can't imagine an offence with a worse detection rate than speeding, you are statistically far more likley to get caught for the offences you mentioned than speeding.

Disagree. Driving without due care and attention is much more prevalent than speeding, look at all the numpties. Give them their due though, most of them arent speeding.

I disagree, saw more speeding than DWDCA today by a long way. (Saw some doing both as well.)

The thing is speeding is easy to measure (inaccurately), DWDCA only becomes visible sometimes. I reckon half the people on the road arent paying attention at some point in their journey.

Interesting, although I neglected to name any specific motoring offences, you have specifically named speeding in your response.
Am I assume you are using it to compare in an apples for apples like arguement, can I assume you consider speeding should be considered in the same light as the offences I have detailed.
I`m sure my 75 year old mother with 3 points on her licence will be delighted to hear that.

I have no problem with the use of speed cameras, fixed, mobile or even operated by my next door neighbour with only a days instruction on how to operate it.
My problem is with the now antiquated points system in use with them.
How much easier is it now than, say 20years ago, to be detected for speeding and prosecuted.
The final outcome being loss of licence on a `tally` system.
I would rather a sliding scale fine system based on % of excessive speed and frequency of offence than the system we currently operate.
There are a lot of people who can loose too much by not being able to drive, but they are still human and make mistakes. The law does not protect these people.

So this is some kind of guessing game then to work out which particular offence you were thinking of so we can have a rational debate on the rates of detection and prosecution?

Ok, too subtle then.
We are prosecuting motorists off the road using an antiquated two tiered penalty system which has remained virtually unchanged since before I was driving (a very, very long time)
And I STILL only get a crime reference no when my house, car, office etc is burgled.

I just love the "FLAK JACKETS" paragraph heading in the story.

Most uniform officers routinely wear body armour; in fact, it's mandatory in my force, unless you can show, and record, good reason why it shouldn't be worn.

I wore my body armour on nights last week as well.

It was the fact they had the manpower to send 4 bobbies to arrest him......
