Someone actually caught on false plates!

Camera partnership chairman Keith Hanshaw said: “This case demonstrates that safety cameras not only detect speeding drivers but are also a useful tool in identifying other forms of traffic offences which can be passed to our colleagues at Kent police to investigate further.”
Did they think that if the cameras hadn't been there then he wouldn't have felt the need for false plates?
What other "forms of traffic offences" have been identified by speed cameras? I'd love to know! Tailgating? Drunk driving? Untaxed, uninsured, unlicenced driving?

To be fair on this one he got what he deserved.
If he had crashed into somebody, drove off and they take down his number plate he's got away with it.

Don't let that spoil a good rant about speed cameras.

I knew I had got something wrong. I apologise to all

Yeah the guy was a proper C yoU Next Tues. And yeah he got what he deserved, but it seems as though the police could only catch him after he had waved at the camera!
On a better note:
I remember a while a go a story surfacing about a group of "joy riders" who had gone through a speed camera and leaned out of the window to wave as it took their picture. They were recognised an brought to justice.

You were of course right first time.

There's more to this story than appears in that article. There must be.
My guess is that he took the piss and regularly drove past the same camera, so they worked out he was local and then just needed to trace the cars of that make and colour, and visit them until they found the guy that waved at them.
I guess that if you had fake plates on your car and got done irregularly and not at sites local to home you'd get away with it fairly easily.

What I find most disturbing about this incident is this.
Had he done his research and used a number of plates that actually related to other silver merc`s and rotated them, not only would he have got away with it but other TOTALLY INNOCENT motorists would have been prosecuted in his place for failure to provide evidence of the offending driver. (Supposing they have no CAST IRON alibi)
We are going to see a lot of this when the crims wise up.

ANPR may have caught him I suppose. Assuming they flag offenders whose plates don't match the car or don't lead to a prosecution for some dodgy reason.

I don't think there's any more to it than is stated in the article - that he triggered speed cameras (maybe the same one, maybe several) but all in the Medway area. That (and waving) p1ssed off the scamera partnership who set about finding him.

You're probably right. I suppose the key message from the issue of the story is that if you use false plates, you go to gaol.
Lady who goes to an evening class I also attend has German plates on her BMW. The Beamer is right hand drive and is mainly used in the UK from what I can gather - but she goes to Germany on a semi-regular basis. I think her arrangement was done on reasons of cost...and she has a German address and all the cross-european lifestyle to justify it. Clearly, though, it will act as an interesting defence against automated speed enforcement....
Original guy was a prat, though. Why bait the SCP until they pass evidence to the cops? If he'd changed plates regularly and plain old slowed down past his local cameras he could probably have got away with it for decades.

Suspect more to point was that the income (and propaganda ) made finding him worth while , sort of profit and loss reasons --one £60 would make it non profitable, multi £60 would make it profitable ,and then the points disqualification =good publicity, and the jail bit ---bonus - hit the jackpot.
