I think you mate has the right idea... but as long as the change isn't to RED, I think the highway code says... if you have crossed the line before it turns red... However... if you can stop safely... then you should stop... I was hit from behind buy an volvo driving idiot who decided to accelatate accross a set of changing lights... a very cunning stunt! considering I was stopping... and I was right in front of him...
Appart from the fact it wrote off my girlfriends car... and injured me...

Giving it 'the max' is not illegal, it will however draw unwanted attention to anyone that does it. Why would you need to draw the attention of a Police officer who is bound to ask you why you felt it necessary to do so. There are rules about unecessary noise. If it was unecessary to 'max' away from the lights up to the limit, then it is possible it may cost you £30 for the privilege.
What are you trying to prove by 'maxing out' so close to a possible source of inconvenience? If you happen to lose contact with the road at the front, then you are definately on dodgy ground.
If you must max out, then do it when no one is watching you and you will not have a problem.
As maxing out is a sort of "Look at me" statement, then I suppose doing it when there is no one else around is pointless.

Always. And it's fun ! I enjoy acceleration a lot, more so than top speed. Just I wondered if it was legal... as MC says, it might make some noise which could get me into trouble. But provided it didn't make too much noise, IS IT LEGAL to hit 30mph in 1 second? I can't see why not, but that's why I was asking!!!!
cheers peeps.

I never go above half revs when pulling away from the lights, otherwise the wheels start spinning and I get all embarassed
I never go above 3500prm in the dry, or all 4 of mine start spinning....
