5 months custodial sentence.
IN all fairness he was driving while banned and was also clocked at 120mph in a 40 limit.
Then was nailed doing 156.7mph on a 70 limit dual carridgeway.
the only thing that worries me is this comment
Sheriff Veal told McAllister: "Anybody driving at this speed must realise that it's dangerous and inevitably a custodial option will be top of the priorities."
Hmmm, shows the "priorities" the courts have.

This is why there letting out all the murderers, rapists, muggers etc to make room for "real" criminals like motorists.
I know this case is different (and i don't know the details of the case) but the high speed chase wouldn't have happened if the police hadn't given chase. I'd hazard a guess that they had helicopter up there. So they could of called the pusuit cars off and then had the heli track him. When he stops the car the heli calls in support from the ground. Resulting in no high speed chase and less of a danger to the general public

Spot on.
120 on an empty motorway is a bit different to 120 in a 40 whilst disqualified
Edited to say: oops, wrong case. This bloke was not disqualified when he did it (well, he is now).

But can magistrates etc tell the difference? It won't be long before "honest" speeding motorists will face penalties like this, for the heinous crime on exceeding the posted limit by a fair whack on what could well be a perfectly safe, empty, straight bit of road.
What really irks me
is the plague of NSL roads that have suddenly been cut to 40 without reason. I have no objection to 40,30 or 20 in built up areas, villages, schools etc and respect these as sensible controls. But imposing an arbitrary 40 limit on a piece of open road that has previously been travelled at 60 is just asking for people to lose respect for speed limits generally.

as far as I'm aware the only force in Scotland with a heli' is Strathclyde (the A90 being in Grampian). I pound the A90 regularly and 156 along that road is certifiable.
The other thing which needs to be borne in mind is that the A90 between Aberdeen and Dundee is littered with Gatso's (only trigger at 80+) and you can see them fairly easily, so I would suggest that his powers of observation at the time were pretty close to non-existent. There are NO areas on the A90 where I would say that a 40 limit exists without due reason.
I would not like to say that anyone deserves prison but he certainly needed a good kicking of some sort.

Without knowing the exact circumstances of his speeding I find it difficult to condemn the bloke.
It doesn't say what time of day or night it was, or how much traffic there was, or what sort of road the 40 limit was on.
If it had been on an empty dual carriageway with a 40 limit, then although 120 is excessive, it doesn't deserve a jail sentence in my opinion. I think the fact that he was driving while disqualified that really did it for him.

The 40 limit wasn't built up or residential it was temporary roadworks.
You know the sort one lane open the rest coned off.
If he was able to do 120 down that then the road must've been near empty cos if you tried that on most UK roads it wouldn't be long before you'd get held up by someone.

Some of you lot are being VERY harsh.
Haven't you seen the plague of 40 limits that infest many of our 2 & 3 lane motorways? once it was legal to do 70, now it's 40, often 30.
So get off your high horses - in NSL *most* of us here give it the big 'un, eg, 80-120mph is not a big deal.
So extrapolate that back, and slap a 40mph limit on a road that doesn't need it...
Poke his eyes out? you should be ashamed of yourself for that suggestion.
I'm losing respect for some of the "do gooders" on this forum. It ain't good to judge by the numbers if you weren't there. Can't you think for your selves? or are you numpty T2K plants?

Well said, Carl.
It's damn easy these days to be cruising along a stretch of what's always been NSL (open road with no village), and suddenly see a new 40 reminder sign. Yeah, yeah, observation blah blah, but on a road I know, I'd rather be looking out for obvious dangers rather than new speed limits.
I'd really like to see some sentencing statistics for high-speeders who've stolen the cars. Bet there's not even talk of jail for those poor victims of society.

Bit harsh yourself! I DO know the road, it's NOT a 40 limit, ONLY through the roadworks which last for a mile or two. The A90 between Aberdeen and Dundee is littered with farms, small villages and all the associated feeder roads, I've often come round a corner to be hit by a roadblock caused by a tractor and it's trailer on that road. Some of the worst crashes I've seen have been on that road (ask any Scottish traffic cop)well that and the A9. It's not a motorway by any means, neither is it quiet dual carriageway in the middle of nowhere, its the only link between Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen so it's pretty busy all the time. If not with commuters and tourists during the day, it's got the artics at night.
I know the road,I've driven it at all times of the day and night (9am, 5pm, 4am, the lot)and I try to think of where I could do 156 at an appropriate place and I come up a blank.
As for being there and witnessing the circumstances, I'm glad I wasn't. However does he deserve jail for what he did? Personally I don't think so and I'm glad I don't make those decisions.
