My flatmate got snapped at 95 leptons on the M4 by a bridge camera. He has a court appearance lined up later in the month.

at that speed he expects a hefty fine and three points plus a driver training course.

however, as part of his new job he just went on a driver training/awareness course and passed with flying colours (about 3 weeks after the incident). Would an appeal that "he went on the driver awareness course as part of his new job, and it was a very useful course from which he has learnt a lot about the dangers of speeding etc" and is now a reformed chappy work?

or what action is the best he should take?

At that spped i think he could get more than 3 points. The fact he has been on a driver course i do not think will have any bearing either. It will be upto the judge what he gets at the end of the day.

Just read the post properly

Why is he going to court ? At an alleged 95mph (assuming it was a 70 limit and not within roadworks) and assuming he has less than 8 points, then it should have qualified (just) for a Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty.

It must have been over 95MPH or the 'friend' already has enough points to earn a ban?

95MPH would normally qualify for 3 points and £60 conditional offer.

Speeding on a Motorway (SP50)
Offence
Driving on a motorway in excess of the speed limit

Maximum Penalty
Fine not exceeding Level 4 Endorsement with 3-6 penalty points Discretionary disqualification

Level 4 = £2,500

Is there not a limit of 91mph,anything over that and it can go to court where the magistrates decide the level of punishement (could well be wrong on this)

If he admits he went on a driver training course and still got snapped expect 3 points just for stupidity

he has no points, clean license for years.

sadly he drives a much nicer car than mine which is more to insure (porker) and doesnt need the points!

lets see how the magistrate sees things i guess...
