Innocent but on the DNA Database ...

I do not believe that 2,650,000 INNOCENT members of the public have had their DNA retained in the last 5 years!
That is over 500,000 a year.
Nearly 10,000 a week!!!
Utter Rubbish.
Still its a paper, so why am I not surprised.
Possibly not rubbishThat is over 500,000 a year.

..."Q3. How many 10-17 year-olds are arrested and how many of these have committed an offence?
The Home Office publishes figures on the number of arrests of 10-17 year-olds each year (there were 330,800 arrests of 10-17s in 2004/05 ), but this is not the same as the total number of young people arrested, as some will be arrested more than once in a given year. However, a rough estimate is that about 4% of 10-17s are arrested per year (based on Home Office survey data for 2004/05 ): this is 219,440 young people. About 2% of 10-17s are arrested ‘offenders’ and 2% arrested ‘non-offenders’ (also based on Home Office survey data for 2004/05 ), i.e. there are about 109,720 of each.
from here
That's almost half the total per year....
I know this is old data but shows that over 1.25 million arrests were made in 2001.There would have had to have been a large drop to get anywhere near 500,000 per year.....

It doesn't say "2,650,000 INNOCENT members of the public have had their DNA retained in the last 5 years!"That is over 500,000 a year.
Nearly 10,000 a week!!!

It says:
"In the past five years, just 634 profiles have been erased from the DNA database. Over the same period 2,650,000 have been added."

Yes, watch out, room 101 us near...
The extra convicted people outweighs the innocent people whose DNA is on the database.
In order to have that figure of innocent DNA profiles on the database you'd need an average of 33 new DNA profiles per day per Police force of innocent people arrested for their first time.
I've worked closely with the 9th largest force in the country and there is no way they hit that figure.
Reread the article. It says 2.6M added. Not 2.6M innocents added. The extra convicted people outweighs the innocent people whose DNA is on the database.

Not read it once, went on what someone above wrote.
Don't want to get on the database? Don't get arrested... In some cases that can't be helped (malicious allegation etc), but never mind, that's the downside to the database.
Being as you can be arrested for just about anything these days (shouting at a Labour party conference?) then thats' not very reaklistic advice...Don't want to get on the database? Loads. It's be interesting to see how much each respective government has legislated. I'd imagine it'll increase each government. An increasing complex technological society requires more legislation. Not that i'm suggesting all of it is good.
So my point that avoiding arrest is more difficult year on year is valid?Remember you don't even have to be cautioned or charged, let alone proved guilty of anything to have a DNA sample taken.FishFace said:

Possibly, but what type of legislation? Generally the law needs to adapt to new opportunities that criminals can exploit. In what way does most of the new legislation that NuLab have introduced meet that criteria? That's some really scary stuff I must say...
On the other hand, you should have seen it coming. What do governments do? Ensure their existence. How do you do that? By outruling all possible competition (eg citizens in this case). And how do you do that? By limiting their autonomy, to begin with.
1984 is approaching at miles a minute, that one's for sure. Question is going to be who will have the guts to pick up the weapons? The vast majority of the socially indoctrinated people that detest violence whatsoever? Because let's face it, it will come down to violence in the end.
The number of poor people is rapidly increasing, the means and chances for those people to improve themselves are rapidly decreasing. These people also have the will to survive you know... It's a grenade, waiting for it's pin to be released. And I'm honestly looking forward to that day, I really am...
