I keep seeing these new 'Traffic Response' police type cars on the motorway and must have been living in a monastry because I've never heard about them.

What the score with these gentlemen then? Are they like Traffic Specials? More importantly can they impose speeding penalties?
Anyone who cries repost is a wr wink

I think you mean The Highways Agency, or HATOS as some people call them. They are there to clear shite off the roads and support closures and deal with non-injury accidents I believe.

As far as I am aware they have no powers or means to do anything regarding speeding.
Couldn't they just carry their brushes and shovels in an orange transit....smile

That's right and having driven up the M6 yesterday, I wish more people would realise that instead of standing on the anchors at the first sign of one of them!

I suspect on that basis people would pretty much ignore them totally, whereas now you often find (on the M25 at least IME) a nice rolling roadblock - as people crawl past them at 65mph....

i'll bet that their livery is designed too look just like a cop car from a distance or under the essentially monochrome sodium lamps....

And to a lot of visually impaired drivers in normal light, hence the "Blackpool illuminations" and 70mph queues around them. They've been on the go (certainly in the midlands ) for some time now, but still cause the same problems.

I don't know if it is legal here, but in the States they often hide cops with radar guns in these groups...
