Make an appointment with the garage concerned, ensure that they make a record.

You are then covered by law to only drive your vehicle for its test, and return home, or to place for repairs.

Quick Question here. How far are you allowed to drive a car with no MOT? I have one that's ran out and have a friend who runs an MOT station 50 miles away. Is this taking the urine?

Also, as i have not seen him for a while, if i MOT it at 5pm and it fails, but i'm chewing the fat with him for a few hours, am i going to get into trouble for not driving it straight back?

Answer - only to garage for its test/repairs or straight back home (assuming safe as car can fail over worn wiper blades (problem if wet wink) or last minute blown bulb)

Also - you go to nearest one within reason. There would be loads of test centres closer - even in remotest Cumbria. rolleyes

You are not supposed to use car for business/leisure/whatever unless it has had the annual snapshot of its health. Well maintained car? You should have an idea as to its health Liebchen! rolleyes

Get car tested und then go see your mate seem better idea to me wink

I am sure lieber von will agree on this with an essay on the LAW. wink

Thanks WildCat. I've just taken this no MOT car as part ex for my car last weekend. I was considering running it up to my mate as he will do me the MOT for free after 5pm if you get my drift?! wink

I'm not sure if it's too much of a risk to take though and might just wash the car and fix the broken oil light then stick the old beast on ebay as spares/ repair.

Pleased to be of help to you. But MOT? It ist not so expensive to that extent - surely?

I know some garages offer free MOT or half price MOT with service. I am wary of such offers as it usually mean "repair that car does not really need" rolleyes

(I use dab of red nail varnish on parts I know need replacing if sending to a garage wink)

All the same - check these out.

Also before taking car for this test - check the obvious of lights/wipers/tyres/seatbelts und any rust/holes which just need a quick welding.

If not viable - then you are right to sell as spare bits - but make sure you drives up a fair price wink
