This evening as I sat in traffic waiting for a set of lights onto a roundabout. The dappy tart in the BMW 1 series in front rolled back into my car. Cant see any damage, but she made no attempt to stop and check just drove off into the distance when the lights turned green.

I have her reg number but is it worth reporting? Given the attitude of police last time my car was driven into when parked they'll try and say I failed to stop at an accident. Or she'll decide to say I drove into her and claim some damage to her car etc.

Just best to forget it?

There's no harm in reporting it, cant promise much action from the Police over this matter but you need to get it on record for your own sake.

Plus, its an RTC at the end of the day and there's nothing to say she hasn't taken your reg number down and reported it herself.

I doubt it. I doubt damage to either car either.. just a "touch-bumper" in traffic. Zero injury or tangible damage to third party property? I think a waste of time in reality based on what other people do tell me. wink albeit down the pub! laugh

On record? Insurers are a business looking for way to load premiums at end of day. Insurer stats would confirm my cynicism wink as they are sure folk do "keep stumm" wink

But if no damage - I doubt the silly bint reported this. She would have stopped immediately if she thought herself rear ended.

I suspect she did not even register the slight jar. Some people are that stupid. . I perhaps observe too much of human nature .. am not that daft despite my perhaps too excessive compassion at times. ;')

I'd report it, you never can tell sometimes.

I once had a woman crash into the back of me and deny it. I explained that I'm not in the habit of getting out of my car for no reason and talking to people behind me, I also asked her why her numberplate was on the floor and my black car had her yellow cars paint all over it. She just wasn't having it and got really angry, had a tantrum, then admitted it and blamed me. I was curious as to how I caused it whilst sat stationary in a line of traffic.

Thanks for the advise. I dont think she'll have had time to take down my reg (as it was squished against her car at the time) and then she was busy driving when she moved off. So I think I'll let it pass as theres no damage. I'll just remember to leave more space next time!

Hmmm, if she did realise then hopefully she'll work on her clutch control to stop it happening again.

Liebchen! I always carry a dictaphone or similar - plus disposable cam with 35 mm film plus a digital cam these days. wink I trust no one really even though I will always try to show understanding und some compassion. But I make it plain that I am no fool either wink

On Paul's site /.. I .. well . tja .. I joined in with my husband when a poster called "mosis" posted that he intended to have hidden cams on his cars to report "them 'orrid drivers out there!" I confess to seeing his frustration. BUT... my sense of fairness und aversion to being watched 24/7 without my consent plus a BiB attitude of "uncalibrated evidence" .. does not lead to any action taken rolleyes

OK .. so Mad Doc (husband who post mostly on Paul's safe speed site) flogged the COAST safety line to him wink as it work in defensive mode too wink He tried to point out that he also flog a dead horse on this one as police only interested if it meet some fine paying target these days wink

But despite all that - I do keep in my kit anything which would help me fight a case in a court if need be.. und video/camera/dictaphone would all seem to be helpful in such a situation wink .

I am compassionate, empathising.. but not at all naive.

It wasn't clutch control. Lights were still red, and she'd rolled back 3 or so feet... (I wasn't looking ahead of me at the time so only realised what was happening when there was a bump).

I try to evaluate my drives. I usually do place in neutral und engage the handbrake if I know I will be stopped a while or so.

I do not know if "habit" or acquired good practice common sense.

though wink

After incident. My learning curve even though not my fault per the courts etc?

I look for "escape route".

I leave tarmac/tyres gap plus margin in queue.

If at lights .. I try to stop before line .. so that I have some space if some amoebic muppet storm up to me rolleyes

Call me picky but I do not want any repetition of horror rolleyes but that does not mean I cannot have "fun" und I certainly do not wag fingers at those who overtake me. I just assist any overtake wink

Many, many years ago, a bus driver claimed my father's car had rolled into his bus at traffic signals. Uphill on a 1 in 15, FFS! Fortunately there was a witness ... wearing Her Majesty's crown! - Streaky
Of course, that was in the days when policeman were a common sight on our pavements.

in the real world though, just what would you expect the police to do?.... go off and find her, tell her she touched another car with hers and caused no damage. hardly the best use of police time.
you could report it and get a log number, but again, in the real world,do you really think she'd ever go and report you? if she's that careless that she rolled back into you ,its very doubtfull that she got you number, and the police are hardly going to spend time looking for a car by a vague description, with no reg number, and no injuries involved.

nope, if there's no damage to your car, just forget about it.

I once had a van driver stop in front of me and then reverse without looking, straight into the front of my car. He then tried to claim that somehow it was my fault until I pointed out the CCTV cameras trained on him.

If there isn't any damage, I doubt that the BiB will pursue it anyway. My car was damaged in a car park and I had witnesses who saw the whole thing and they still refused to act.

Plus, if there isn't any damage, how can you prove that she actually rolled into you without any witnesses to back you up? If you reported it, she could just as easily say that you rear ended her and it would be your word against hers.

If there is no damage or injury then it isn't an accident.
It may be an incident of DWDC.
For a reportable accident it has to be on a 'road'
