A chap at work here managed to get a further 3 points on the M6 last night. It brings his total to 9 and as he needs his licence for his job was wondering if he can pay a chunk of dough to the gov't to have some removed.

Can he?

Thanks in advance biggrin

No! points for speeding are valid for 3 years & can be removed from licence after 4 years. Points for other convictions vary yet all have a set time where they must remain on licence.

He can pay to have points removed - it costs £19 (or may be more nowadays) and they must have expired over 12 months before.

No help in this situation, but strictly speaking - yes, it is possible to pay to have points removed redface .

Just wait 'till the "healthy lifestyle" propaganda/legislation starts to bite and tobacco/alcohol/luxury food tax take drops down, how long before some bright spark works out the "road safety offset" - £1000 per point to have it removed from your licence, donations stirred into a trust fund from which 0.001% might go into actual road safety schemes, providing we flip a coin and get three heads in a row, sort of thing.

In fact, thinking about it, I say £1000 but probably more some proportion of annual income, bonus "how dare the rich be rich" political points from the great unwashed.

You have to pay to have them removed after they expire?

Yes. But no charge if you want to change the name or address on the licence.

Answer - leave any expired points on your licence until you move house or get married - your new FOC licence should come back with the endorsements removed..wink

You could probably get away with sending it off and using the same address.
Numpties probably won't notice.

Erm, short answer, no. Was he caught by an occifer of the law, or a scamera van? If he was caught by a van he can't be sure he'll get a NIP, even if he gets a NIP, i've heard stories* of people driving other peoples motor vehicles who just happen to have gotten a large injection of cash into their account AFTER the offence took place.

* i would not condone or recommend this behavious in any way. *cough*

But slowing down costs nothing biggrin

Looks like its time for him to get a GPS gadget and automatic garage door opener (for security and ease you see).
