Move on, please...

Notts council and Police ban the congregation of five or more cars

An English county council has banned the congregation of cars, according to the BBC.

Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottinghamshire Police applied for the injunction from the county court. It prevents five or more vehicles from "congregating, driving in convoy, or racing" in the county.

The council said the move followed hundreds of complaints about the noise and anti-social behaviour of what it called ‘boy racers.’ It claims the injunction is aimed at the modified car movement.

Nottingham City Council obtained a similar injunction in 2006 which applied to the city.

The injunction carries a maximum two year jail sentence for anyone found breaching the order and will remain in place for two years before review.

So are they going to break up wedding/funeral processions then? Seems a bit vague!

Pathetic. Just because a few chavs in their Saxos troll around in convoy or do doughnuts in a car park then the rest of us get affected.
Again we are soft targets.

Sounds like discrimination against young lads in their cars to me. There are already laws against anti-social behaviour so what's the point of this new law?

Agreed. Be interesting to see the full text of the bill...or at least a detailed summary.

Not sure how you can have a 'congregation of cars', given that cars are inanimate objects. 'Congregation of drivers' would be equally difficult...as virtually no-one would be able to work in Nottingham then!!!

In all honesty, unless the press have mis-reported it, it sounds unworkable. But what's the betting they'd make it work WHEN they wanted to?!?

Sorry to let the full facts get in the way of a good story hehe but the injunction only applies when the group of 5 or more cars are causing a nuisance or being antisocial

Surely there is some anti-terrorism legislation that they could use?

It seems to be creeping into most other aspects of life...

What a joke!!!!
Seems like another example of the minorities spoiling it for everyone. So is a car club now banned in Nottingham?

surely it is better to encourage all the little boy racer chav types to all park up in one place preferably away from the town centre rather than continuously driving around like tw*ts .

Who decides whether or not they are creating a nuisance?

The note from Notts police says that apparently the `majority'???? are causing the problem, and spoiling it for the minority who only want to show off their cars. Not sure what to make of that.
