I didn't get nicked or anything, but around my area there are always loads of Camera Vans and most of them park up illegally. Some are parked on double yellows, others causing an obstruction by parking on pavements, etc, etc. It really annoys me because if that was my car, I'd soon be nicked or get a ticket.

Isn't there some law that says evidence obtained illegally cannot be submitted in court anyway?

Just wanted to clarify this, because I'm now carrying around a camera and each time I see them I'm taking pics. Might start up a website or something.

There are invariably dispensations & exemptions available to the vans to carry out their work.

They may be exempt, but there is nevertheless a distinction between responsible and irresponsible use of that exemption - and if you feel the latter applies then it doesn't hurt to take a picture and send it to them explaining your concerns, and perhaps copying-in your local paper.

They are only a hop, skip and jump away from the kind of behaviours exhibited by parking attendants, and anything that slows down the rate at which they make that transition has to be a good thing.

No - the exemption means he is exempt from the rules that the double yellow illustrates, so he can't get tickets.

Don't forget, local councils are at the top of the 'safety' partnership tree - they are more guilty then most in this extortion racket.

Do the vans have specific exemptions (ie are allowed to park on Turner Road between junctions A and B) or just a general exemption.

No surprise then, but many parking restrictions are theoretically put in place for safety purposes and some of these vans are parked where ANY vehicle being there creates an extra hazard.

(tongue in cheek)
Yes, there are exemptions that mean that police / scamerati can do things that are dangerous when mere mortals do them...without fear of reprisals.

Surely if yellow lines are there 'cos it's dangerous to park then it doesn't matter who's vehicle it is,the danger is still there....I thought this was all about safety......oh yes,I remember now.......

i saw one traffic warden giving his colleague a pillion ride on his scooter yeaterday. the passenger wasn't wearing a helmet. seems like that's another law which only applies to the public.

Bloody hell...if that was in Nottingham the scooter would have L's on it too.

Hope you got a number and reported it?

I am really, really surprised at this. I thought that all road users were subject to the same rules and regulations, except of course when an emergency vehicle is responding to an incident.

What really makes my blood boil though is seeing a cop car parked on a slipway onto a motorway after the 'clearway' sign.
