I was given a producer after being hit at traffic lights whilst stationary last saturday. I haven't been able to get down there yet as apparently they won't deal with them at the police station anymore, you have to go to the town hall!

I'm off on holiday tomorrow so will be pretty busy packing in the morning, the question is do I have to hand over the documents in person or can someone do it on my behalf?

Cheeky bastards.

They did this to me as well. Some tt ran up the back of me, I went and reported it and they gave ME a producer.

Exactly, I was the one who called them! Could have been worse I guess, could have got FPNs for my number plates!

Every driver involved in an accident will have to produce their documents, irrespective of whether they're to blame or not. This has been standard practice as long as I can remember.

If you haven't got the documents with you at the time, then you'll be given a producer - again, perfectly standard practice.

You'll have to produce the documents yourself - it's not acceptable for a third party to produce them on your behalf.

In my force area somebody else can produce everything except your driving licence, which you must do in person.

Agreed with above re DL in person, other docs just have to be produced.

All the vehicles on our fleet which are > 3 yrs old and thus require current MOT test have a note attached to the log in the glove box * which states in case of a pull the nick which must be nominated for production of the MOT ticket by either leasing co, or those unfortunates like me at HQ.

  • * does anyone actually carry gloves in there?

I thought that a producer meant you had to produce the required docs at the police station of your choice?? Why should a particular police station be able to turn you away when you are complying with the law?

yes i thought so too. When i got a producer after an accident last year, i had to nominate at the scene which Police Station i would like to use. Maybe the OP tried to nominate at the scene his local station, only to be told they couldn't do it there, so his next best bet would be the town hall?

My wife's car was hit by a lump hammer flying off the back of a flat-bed last week (yikes) and she got a producer when reporting it.

I took the docs to the local station on her behalf - no problems...
