This is just one of those things that I've got to ask. I've seen in the papers chav's getting say 11 points on their license for doing 'something'. When I had my old learners permit I seem to remember reading that it worked like the full on UK license, 11 points is 'fine' (well it's not but you know what I mean) 12 points is a ban.

But, for two years after passing your test your license will only take 6 points before you loose it and need to retake your test, so how does that work? You can hypothetically take and pass your test on a license with 11 points but then the second you apply for the full license you loose it because you're only allowed 6?

Or has the whole system be rejigged and I'm not with it any more?

All valid penalty points will be taken into account when deciding whether six or more points have been accumulated in the two-year probationary period. Penalty points gained prior to the first driving test, which are within the three-year validity period, will also be taken into account. However, these will only come into scope of the Act if you incur further penalty points during the probationary period. Also, penalty points incurred after the probationary period has expired will be taken into account if the offence was committed during the probationary period.

yes Looks good, almost quite but not entirely English hehe Any chance of a translation in to 'idiot child'? smile

So basically you could get 11 points on a learners and it resets to zero on the full, unless you do 35 in a 30 and get a NIP?

And no, my license is theoretically clean (possibly ban for expired motorcycle learner) but fundamentally clean now. I'm just curious as to how it actually works.

Revocation & disqualification are not the same thing.

New Drivers Act is revocation of the licence.

Totting up is disqualification of the licence.

It's an interesting question actually.

If you have between 4 and 8 points before you pass your test then get done speeding (std 3-pointer, let's assume) they revoke your test pass and you have to resit it.

If you have 9 or more points before you pass your test and you get caught speeding do they ban you for totting up, revoke your licence or both?

The consideration of a ban for totting would have to come first.

Each month between 1,500 & 2,000 new drivers have their licences revoked.

I suppose the court could also make retaking the test part of the punishment too?
