New (looking pernament) specs on the M8?
Discussion
Has anyone else notes the many specs that have recently appeared on the M8 in both directions just south of the Kingston Bridge?
They look pretty much pernament to me and seem to cover slip roads and span several different limits - 70, 60 and 50 as you head west along the sections that's usually blocked solid, plus the eastbound lanes.
Does anyone know if these are working yet? If they're spanning several limits, does that means the limits will be getting changed? Any idea if this is related to the forthcoming work on the Kingston Bridge?

They have been put up to enforce temporary speed limit during road works from M77 to Clyde Tunnel - next 7 weeks (ie all through school hols)

Wasn't there something about a flaw in these cameras that the DfT didn't know about when they rolled them out? Something about if you change lanes between these Specs cameras any speeding conviction would be unsafe because the camera was designed to average the speed of a vehicle in a single lane?

The type approval was based on staying in lane and operating in proceding pairs. So if you ensure you pass each camera in a different lane to the last the camera will be operating outside of type approval. Edited by oldsoak on Saturday 30th June 14:03
The camera can only monitor the first two lanes from that in which it is mounted so if mounted on the nearside it can only monitor the near and middle
lanes if it is to remain within type approval.
