Just north of J29 on the northbound carriageway of the M6 last night at approx 2345 saw a camera van setting up ON the motorway although he had parked the van behind the armaco barriers just under a bridge. Camera was out of the van on a tripod facing south towards oncoming traffic. I'm 99% certain it was a police officer on the camera.
This isn't anything to do with the terror scare is it?

Maybe. Terrorising the motorist. Far far more of a real and present danger to my life and lifelihood than any comedy "extremists" we may or may not have lurking about.

Wouldn't have thought that ticketing speeding terrorists was a particularly profitable activity. Number plate recognition perhaps? Have seen a unit mounted on a tripod.

You've made this comment (or similar) a couple of times now. Are you saying that you don't think that there is any terror threat at all, that it's all made up?

I think he's just voicing the opinion that SCPs are more likely to affect someone's life for the worse than any terrorist, given that the probability of being caught up in an atrocity is very small.

Would have thought it was ANPR. Donington Servies was lifting with policemen plus an ANPR operation, due to the East Midlansa Airport nearby I would guess.

Two plain white vans and a marked police car on an overbridge a few miles south of the services (one targetting each carriageway) with a marked car on the 'safe' side of a gap in the armco onto the hard shoulder of the northbound M1 ditto. We presumed that was the SCP until we got to Donnington.

As John Lennon sang: strange days indeed...

Ah ha. I thought he was one of those that suggest there is no genuine threat, that its all made up by "The Government".

I think there's somebody's idea of a terrorist threat but that the biggest threat is of our esteemed gubmint over-reacting to a handful of frankly disorganised f'wits. I'm not in fear of my safety from these imbeciles at all and neither should anybody else be.

It's very convenient for a gubmint though who's agenda seems to be installing CCTV cameras (even microphones, FFS!) on every street corner a la 1984 to make sure the odd "attack" is properly milked for every last drop to garner support for ID cards, ANPR and all the rest, even though everybody knows it won't make a jot of difference to the perps.

Err, you did ask, lol.

I hope that one on the M1 was ANPR too, the windows were closed on the white vans, but the tripod has made me paranoid...

It's not the "threat", it's the reaction to it - Streaky
