According to the news this morning, the PTB have ascertained one of the Mercs involved in the comedy terrorism last week drove to / came from Scotland, linking it up with the comedy terrorism staged there.

The reporter said the ANPR network installed "to combat terrorism" has told them this.

So now we know that we're all being tracked around Britain...

When were we asked for our permission to do this? And when was it decided to store records of ordinary people going about their lawful business?

Only it doesn't register people, only numberplates.

well it's a slightly different issue I would have thought. What is 'comedy terrorism by the way' ?

The system itself was funded and developed to support the protection of the City of London from the terrorist threat. Ok, so the threat has changed since it was introduced, but so has its usage. It was regarded as a complex system with limited use but since things have developed quickly, it is now available in car (not van) and I understand that all forces up and down the country have it fitted - though some more than others.

As commented, its a stunning system - it works well. The only problem is that the data behind it is utterly crap. Its getting better, but the data (and the DVLA) need to significantly improve before its of any real use.

It's where a couple of imbeciles try to bump a jeep up a kerb. Twice. To crash into an airport then set themselves on fire hurting nobody but themselves. International terrorists? Don't make me laugh, these bozos couldn't even wire a plug.

Oh, but no worries, the gubmint will still go ahead and create a raft more legislation, mayhem, and other totally unnecessary queueing and checking on the back of it. See? No matter how incompetent you are you can rely on your "terrorism" to cause pandemonium...

Ahh, was it really? So it worked a treat then since two cars full of petrol (eh?) were still able to enter London and park up.

But if some chinless wonder in Whitehall decides on a whim to check up and find Supermono's travel patterns for any given month they'll be able to easily.

ah, at least it wasnt me wondering why we were so scared of these rank ametuers.. who while were told are member of Al Quedia, seem to be the 'B' team at best...

Im not making light of terrorism here, just that these terror attacks were, erm, not well thought out.

Didn't stop them though did it? Was only by luck those bombs in London were found.

Is it that stunning? To me it should have been implemented years ago on a national basis.

How hard can it be to build a decent database.
