I'm asking this query for someone " X " who doesn't post on PH.

Situation is, X lost his licence for medical reasons in April last year. Once cleared by a specialist medical consultant, he has was able to reapply for his licence in April this year which he did. The consultant has written to DVLA and said X is fine to drive, various forms have been filled in and submitted. DVLA have acknowledged recipt of all the correct forms.

The DVLA medical panel/person/specialist eventually reviewed his case and agreed that X could drive again, so the computer at DVLA was updated to show this towards the end of May. From mid May onwards X has been phoning the DVLA medical section to find out how the case was progressing, hence his knowing his application has been approved for his licence to be reissued.

Now the problem:

Even though he has been approved to start driving again, DVLA have still not issued him with a driving licence. He phones up each week to be told "you are a priority but we are very busy". Asking to speak to a manager or asking to book an appointment in Swansea to go and see them is greeted with a "not possible".

X wants to do what he believes is the legal thing, which is to wait until he is in possession of his licence before driving, but is currently pulling his hair out at what can only be described as yet another inefficient public sector shower of sh1te hiding behind a bloody thick brick wall.

Does anyone know who to contact at DVLA, so that a hard working taxpayer can find out what is going on? If anyone can help or has advice and would prefer not to post on forum, please feel free to email me via my profile.

Thanks

Speak with local MP? Complain that you (sorry, X) is being denied the right to drive as per his license because the DVLA are witholding it.

Write to DVLA asking for written confirmation that the license has been re-instated? Even make it a subject access request (might cost a tenner) for X's own details.

Apply for a replacement license?

I would reccomend he sends off a form for a replacement driving license in parallel - so if the computer has been updated, he should be issued with the license through normal channels..

He could try asking to speak to the Medical Clerk - he (there may well be several!) was extremely helpful when I ran into an almost-identical problem two years ago.

Thanks for all the suggestions I'll pass them on.

I'm not sure who he has been speaking to so far at DVLA, just uses the number on the correspondence, but I would assume he would have been speaking to the medical clerk? or has he been speaking to someone paid to just fob people off?.......

Definately an MP intervention here.

I do a lot of these DVLA medical reports and generally (providing all is physically OK) the turn-around is rapid and licence approval/provision is reasonably slick.

Something is, therefore, up the creek here....
