Lots of info on NIPs - Can anyone help me out?

I've been reading with interest the many posts and especially the 10 pager on NIPs. Being a natural bottler who tends to do roll over and accept punishment I wanted to ask the forum their opinion on my particular case:
Got an NIP this week from driving down B6540 in Derbyshire at 00.30 Monday morning week before last. Doing 38mph in a 30 zone.
Area is unfamiliar to me and taking alternative route as M1 slip closed. For some reason thought road was 40 (hence 38) though I appreciate ignorance is no excuse with the law.
I believe the camera was a Truvelo yet I didn't think they needed a flash? This camera flashed very close to me and from the front (causing a blue glow in vision for at least 30 seconds).
I would be very tempted (by instinct) to send the form back (probably signed) with an excuse or two (as I do have some but they sound like school boy get-outs! Don't want to get the "driving without due care and attention" either!). I would also request a copy of the photo.
I know now I am going to have a load of people telling me not to sign it. Has anyone been in a similar situation? With the flash I am sure the picture will have come out ok.
