Watching the Tour de France prologue in London on the TV & have noticed that French Police are directing the support vehicles on the course & riding the motorcycles that preceed each cyclist.
Do they have any powers & are they armed whilst in the UK?
Just curious.
I can confirm as i was there that they were not armed.Do they have any powers & are they armed whilst in the UK?

There was also french ambulances there aswell which i thought was quite strange.
Glyn.
Not strange at all imo.....each year the UK police have escort several bike races and each time manage to get it just the worng side of right!!
The French police unit practive all year round escorting bike races through out france and tehn form a mass unit to escort le tour for all the 21 days.
They're used to riding in close proximity to bikes (which is not as easy to do as it sounds) and therefore every is actually safer if they did the two stages in teh UK as well!!
