I am thinking of buying a car tomorrow and then take it to Europe on Saturday. The question is down to documents, as most European countries need a v5 (or the equivalent), but I won't have time to get one. So can you go travelling on such a new purchase and what should you do, or has anyone done this and what did they do?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Document checks are rare, but they do happen, and not just if you're thought to have broken a traffic law.
Can you at least take an insurance certificate?
Bill of sale from vendor might help as well.

I have spoken to the insurance company and they can provide a cover note for European travel, so that side is covered. Just wonder if a reciept of purchase and the old v5 will do?

I'd think so. They're not looking to bust your chops, or to make their own lives more difficult.
They just want enough credible evidence that you own the car, and that it's legal to drive it there.

Cheers Flemke... think I will go with proof of sale to me and insurance and that should cover it.
