Yes i got flashed by an scamera van back in march doing 90 in a 50.

Went to court yesterday... 14 day ban, no points, £485 fine.

Could have been alot worse.

So a £485 fine but how much do you think your insurance premiums will go up by?

Im not really sure.... I'd guess a 20% increase or there abouts?

Any ideas anyone?

(is a short ban seen as a lesser endorsement than say 9 points in one hit?)

Mine went up 15% for a 14 Day ban on DWDCA... Did the same quote but with points and it went up 10%, so not much difference really...

That's pretty decent then (as far as these things go). I'd always imagined they would sting you for every £ they could get and I had visions of premiums tripling over night.

Yeah i think my outcome could have been alot worse.

Maybe insurance companies dont take as much notice to points/bans for speeding as they used to?

If it's only a 20% rise it seems not...mine went up 6% for a non-fault claim! madbanghead
(over 3-yrs that 'non-fault' claim will cost me around £250 on my two cars and another £50-80 on the wife's!)

This is something I think should be looked at by the insureance obudsman etc. I can see no justification for increasing premiums if you have to make a cliam against a third party. Perhaps if you are in this situation you can claim against the third parties insurers for increased peremiums for the next x years? That might make them think twice about it.

ASUI, a claim against a 3rd party where they are, and can be shown to be, 100% at fault, should include any and all uninsured losses. Thus you should claim for the damage to your property, the additional cost of travelling during the time your vehicle was off-the-road, any time lost at work which led to loss of earnings, car hire costs, costs of phone calls to your insurer or to the police or to the vehicle repairer, and so on. So long as the amount claimed can be demonstrated to be correct and fair, you will receive it as a cost of the accident. You should lose no NCB nor face a rise in premium so long as your insurer suffers no loss. Remember, it's a 'no-claims' discount, not a 'no-blame' discount. If you do have a premium increase imposed, then your insurer must re-claim this as part of the overall claim.

Have you had to renew insurance yet? I was told no increase for a simple 3 points, yet when I went to renew 6 months later the premium increased by over £100.

Many, many years ago I was banned for 7 days and that didn't affect the premium at all.

Hi Welcome to PH, just a hint here but it would have been better for you to create your own thread rather than hijacking someone elses, and if you can find the key labled "caps lock" perhaps you could press it once before you continue posting, as it's "IT'S RUDE TO SHOUT" hehe

Welcome to the forums smile . Start a new thread with the details (hijacking is mentioning your own situation and asking for advice in someone else's 'asking for advice' thread).

Having said this, I believe that a 'speed awareness' course is only offered for a first speeding offence as well as for the lowest levels of infringement of the speed limit (like, 35 or 36 in a 30mph limit and not for 37mph or over - people that would benefit more from the course rolleyes ).

I think your boyfriend is snookered, sadly frown .

Your boyfriend may be snookered if he has been caught speeding again. To be honest if he already had 3 points and was one conviction away from a ban you would have thought that would have been enough to slow him down and save his licence.
