I'm worried about 3 children who live next door. There's 2 toddlers and a newborn who are regularly taken out in the 5 seater car along with 4 or 5 adults and so none of them have any seats or any restraints. Now these people aren't thick, one's a GP and so should know better. If I'm honest I don't really care about the adults, that's their own fault if they die, but I really worry for the children and for the driver of any other car if it were to be involved in an accident for the guilt of killing 3 children even though they weren't strapped in!

Now it's certainly illegal to do this, is there anything that can actually be done??

i would express my concerns to THEM FIRST! why waste your own time and the po-po's?? its more than likely they will stop if they know someone is watching! if they dont contact the po-po!

If they were transporting the family china they'd secure it to minimise the chances of breakage. Obviously their kids are easier to replace.

Have word with them about it before etting the BiB involved. Although I don't know how you'd approach them without sounding like a busy-body.

If they have an accident and the kids are injured or worse, you'll have it on your conscience that you didn't do anything. That's how it would affect me anyhow.. I think you should do something: quiet word/BiB. I don't know which though..

That's exactly why. As I said, I don't care about the adults, they have a choice but the children are innocent but will be the ones to get hurt...

Let's be completely honest here. No, it's not more than likely they'll stop. They need a good kick in the 'nads for it. It's a stupid and wreckless thing to do.

But how did we all survive, sitting in the boot of estates and so on when we were little?

Plain luck and less traffic on the roads, I'd guess. wink

If you decide to have a word and they ignore a complaint to the BMA will cause them no end of hassle

Ought we to mind our own business if it comes to our attention that children are deliberately and knowingly being harmed or put at risk of harm generally? Because that's abuse, neglect being a subset thereof.

Thought providing a touch of irony could be worthwhile... that's the whole point.

here here. Would rather interfere and be wrong than say nothing and regret it later...

I've got an old ex army Land Rover. It has a full canvass roof and no seats, just benches running down the sides (see profile pic). One sunny Saturday a few weeks ago I removed the canvass, threw my girlfriend's eight year old daughter and all her mates in the back and took them off to the beach for a picnic. So far as I'm aware I have broken no laws, and the only injury that occurred on the day was to my pride when I couldn't get the bloody barbecue to light. I understand that the law is the law, but I think that, whilst your concern is valid, you ought to leave it to your neighbours to decide what is best for their children.
