Just got the dreaded summons through and I reckon that I'll be looking at a ban (over 100mph on the motorway).

This is my first offence so I'm a bit unsure as to the merits of using the duty solicitor or getting a specialist motoring solicitor.

I've had a quote of over £700 for a specialist in these matters, do you think that he's likely to make much difference or does anyone have any less expensive alternatives in the Manchester area?

I'm a bit nervous at the moment as I do a lot of driving for my job and so any advice will be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I would say don't use the duty solicitor, doesn't help the magistrate think you are taking it seriously and you have no idea what they are like until it is too late. Either defend yourself or get a proper solicitor.

Depends how much over 100 you were going. I went in for 104 on M4 and did not bother with a solicitor at all just did a "very sorry, silly mistake, won't do it again". 14 day ban £80.

Saw the duty solicitor in action with the case in frount and he managed to get his client (105 on the M4) 28 days and £400.
