I was recently caught doing 36 in a 30 and duly recieved the letter asking for driver details. I sent that back and in the post today I was offered two choices, pay £60 and get three points or pay £72 and attend a 2 hour Met Police speed awareness workshop and get no points.

Obviously i'll take the workshop, but what can I expect? Will I be made to feel a criminal and have to look at crash scene pictures? Anyone been before? Will I have to stand up and say 'I am Paul Garlick, and I am a law breaker'

Probably you will be handcuffed, made to wear a suit of orange, with black arrows on it, shave your head, be strip searched, and made to stand in a line with all the other " criminals ". Some very large Policepeople with big sticks will threaten you and make you feel very small, because speeding motorists are the only criminals that can be caught today.Allegedly.biggrin

I think they play you some footage taken at speed related crash incidents to make you aware of the potential risks that speeding puts before you, they may even give you some hazard awareness training and talk about how it takes the average driver 1.5 seconds to react to a hazard, therefore the faster you are going the closer you will be to the hazard in that 1.5 seconds it takes you to think and start to apply brakes.

Then you'll probably have a questionaire to fill out to see how much you have understood.

You may even get tea and biscuits during a break, but I doubt it.

He is only there for 2 hours. I would have thought their priorities would be education, which is why I doubt there'd be tea and biscuits.

I have just signed up to my course so let's see what happens. There wasn't an area to fill in for special dietary requirements so maybe lunch isn't provided!

Or maybe it's porridge? To show us what we'll spend the rest of our lives eating if we don't change our ways scratchchin

£72 for two hours of being told how not to speed?
Pirates of the Caribbean is only £6.50 and that's THREE hours. Still, beats having your license sullied by points..

From what I know of these events the "lecturer" will be very arrogant and he'll be-stride the classroom like a moral collossus casting his wisdom to an audience in his thrall (i.e. you).

It would be my recommendation that you make his life as difficult as possible by arguing the toss at every opportunity. Think back to school days and to the weak teachers you could cheek with impunity. Except the speeding teacher won't be able to send you to the Headmaster or to punish you in any way; a bit like being at a contemporary school then....

My understanding is that if you don't play the game, be a good boy and promise not to speed again EVER you can be referred back to bib and get your three points and pay another £60 for the privilege.
