NIP but cannot produce paper licence - advice? Not me(!) but Mrs TD was pulled and given a NIP - fair cop and all that wasn't hugely over but consistantly a little too quick on a familiar road.

Problem starts when she tries to find paper part of licence to produce at local police station; cannot find it so orders urgent replacement via the DVLA who have confirmed it sent on Friday but of course this coincides with a postal strike so it hasn't shown up yet.
So she called the Police station today as she will be out of time shortly but has no licence to produce; after trying to explain the situation the Police woman basically said tough you'll go to court, became quite rude when questioned on this, refused to give her details or pass call onto a superior and then hung up. Callback was terminated in the same manner. Disgraceful.

Questions:

If she cannot produce before the 7 days is over, will she really go to court because she cannot produce the paper part of the licence?

If so what can/will likely happen?

Why was the woman at the police station so damned obtuse?

What to do next? (we're planning to go to the station in person tommorrow as my guess is she will not get rudeness face to face and we'll get a straight answer)

Write to the ticket office address on the FPN and explain situation, send it recorded post. They will usually allow extra time to produce your licence.

ETA: If you only have an NIP at the moment then you have until 7 days after you receive the FPN.

this happened to me too except it was a bank holiday! the po-po were excatly the same so rude and they did not care!!?? they just said wait!

apparently the best person to speak to is the DVLA liason officer but NO-ONE would put me through to him!!

i was lucky and the paper part came on the 6th day so i dont know what would have happened if i missed the deadline!

Presume SWMBO was stopped and given FPN. Driving Licence handed over there and then and producer for Counterpart?

...or Producer for both?

Post a bit confusing as first states called at PS and then refers to telephone call?

If it was telephone call then you have the answer in your post :

Agree rudeness at first point of contact with Plod does nothing for public relations and many a Front Office Civilian (who this may have been) wants reminding of this fact.

Go as planned and explain to a uniformed officer, go higher if rudeness continues, asking for extentsion in order that you can receive the CPart from DVLA and then produce. By doing so much time/cost will saved through no Court appearance.

I've had this happen twice before, although it was insurance docs I had misplaced.

First time I got rudeness from front counter, ended up speaking to uniform officer who was polite and PNC check showed all ok so said don't worry.

Second time the front counter lady was nice (and quite fit), and wrote me a note to say I had been in and was to produce as and when it was received.

Assume it will be Chelmsford town station you go to Steve?

No Grays, as its nearest my village.

Others are right its not a NIP, an FPN - my bad. She has tommorrow left of the 7 days, will need an extension if the paper part doesn't show up from the DVLA in time.

Go down to the station and speak with somebody - explain to them at the earliest opportunity how she's trying to get a replacement. Shouldn't be a big problem.
