Be aware that they have 6 months to lay the information which may have been done at the last minute. Once laid then they can serve a summons outside the 6 months.

Fair play. I contemplated taking the same route for mine... but I bottled it.

If my grandad was alive, I'm sure he would have offered to take the points for me... then again, I wouldn't have let him.

I did it because a) I think I am innocent and b) I do not like the idea of being railroaded and intimidated into paying up and taking the points
Congrats and all that.

You were flashed exceeding the posted limit - is that right?
Out of curiosity - why do you think you are innocent?
Are you saying that it was not you, or that you were not exceeding the posted limit, or something else?

Well I go through that camera every morning, it is on dual carriageway 30 limit. I didn't notice the flash, and I have a speed camera GPS warning just in case I forget. It was January 19th at 8.30 a.m. and I think I would have seen a flash. Maybe I was speeding and was flashed but at the very least I wanted to see the evidence so was prepared to plead innocent if prosecuted.

Dwight - does this mean I have to wait another while until six months from the NIP arriving?

Forgive me - I hate speed cameras too - but you have just here and now admitted that you exceed the posted limit on that road every morning. How can you say you are not guilty? If you think that the photo evidence will prove you innocent of speeding in front of the camera then why not just ask for the photo (not that you now need it - again - congrats)?

I'm really happy to accept an argument that cameras are morally wrong, and that they don't reduce accidents or save lives - but if you were flashed it is likely you were exceeding the limit (barring exceptional circumstances).

Hmmm, just because he's truthful about the behaviour that thousands of motorists including himself exhibit every morning and evening he gets a grilling? Stupid to post about it but the situation is just stupid. If you don’t talk about something, does it mean it doesn’t happen? This is the reason I won’t be caching his post.

Remove your profile pic and keep it buttoned eh wink

Sorry, I (at least) wasn't intending to give him a grilling - yes you are right, this happens all the time, and it should be discussed as it may benefit us all.

What I was trying to get to the bottom of was why the OP felt he was innocent - I'm not saying he's not, I just wondered what the reasons were.

Like in ever case he is innocent because the prosecution failed to prove his guilt.

I know it is an inconveince to many in power but we really do need to defend the priciple and stop further erosion whether by actual legisation or "hearts and minds" techniques.

I wasn't (and I think the OP wasn't) talking about "innocent" in strict legal terms, but in terms of "didn't commit the offence".

Yes I do think I am innocent in real terms. I do not think I went through that speed camera measurement area in excess of 30 mph.

And yes, the situation is stupid. This particular stretch of road used to be a 40 mph, then a pedestrian bridge fell down and they made it a (temporary) 30mph. That was 2 years ago. There is good visibility, and 45 or more would be quite safe at most times of the day. Instead they have chosen to set the limit at a sensible maximum for rush hour traffic. For all other times it is a sensible minimum. Now correct me if I am wrong, but a speed limit is exactly that, a limit. I regulary drive past schools at 15 mph in a 30 limit at 8.30 am. Other times, with no kids and no parked cars I do 30. But there is one stretch locally near a school with a 20 limit ALL THE TIME. Now my stopping distance from 20mph is 20 feet plus reaction time, say another 20 feet. That is 40 feet or less that 3 car lengths. At 30mph it is 45 feet plus 30 = 75 feet total. With a wide pavement and no parked cars, there is no chance of a child running out without me seeing, but that does not matter, 20mph it is. And there is a Gatso.

Encourage observation and thought and setting your speed according to the conditions, time of day, weather, traffic, hazards ahead etc., and accidents wil fall. Set stupid limits and people will be encouraged to think they are safe as long as they are within the limit and accidents will rise.

We all keep quiet at our peril.

OK. I guess it's water under the bridge now - but you could, presumably, have asked for the photo and that would have shown (barring equipment failure) what your speed was?
I would guess that by asking for the photo you are not denying yourself the chance to use the PACE mechanism?

I don't think they will supply it unless they prosecute and there is a court date, then I have a right to see the evidence and that would be my next step. No point until then, and no point ever if no prosecution.
