Hi, I've trying to find some details of Scamera Placement. I've heard rumors that camera are placed on any piece of road with 3 deaths or more on it, but some of these deaths are not attributed to a RTA, I.E. Suicide. I'm looking into this as I can't quite believe it, where can I find some info on it?

Thanks

I'm looking there now but can't find any info on that there. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place...

Rumours are rumours.

Unless the suicide jumped out in front of an artic?

If you go down to the DofT site today,
Your sure of a big surprise :

...and if you play about with D of T sites and key works safety cameras you may well come up with the citeria:

Camera to be visible for at least 200ft (advisory)

4 collisions involving death or serious injury within 1 kilometre stretch in previous 3 years.

From this a Milestone Inspector (Vagrant) having a heart attack at road side would not count.......or would it?

So, Vagrant witnesses a crash with a vehicle narrowly missing them - this brings on a heart attack and Vagrant dies. Bet that'd countwink

I don't think those restrictions hold any more for the siting of cameras.

Totally agree 7db

The Darling man in his statement does mention:

"The criteria on the location of safety cameras are being changed to ensure that cameras can be used where there is a strong road safety need. The deployment criteria will take account of all injury accidents as well as the level of KSIs, look back five years rather than three; and allow camera enforcement on routes where there is a serious problem of speeding and casualties, without the problem necessarily being concentrated at one particular location. "

but all I could find was the old criteria I mentioned.

None of the mobile sites local to me are shown on that map, which is strange as the site claims to use the Pocket GPS World database which I know from personal experience to be accurate.

The map has a symbol for mobile sites and the Pocket GPS World database definitely includes them, I have the same database loaded into my satnav and it gives a warning before I pass any of the mobile sites in my local area.
