Our road is pretty narrow - If you park a car at the roadside there is just enough room for the binmen to come down and empty the bins. 500yds from our house is a primary school and next to that is a park.

In recent weeks it seems that someone has moved house between our place and the school. The son has a silver EVO FQ (carbon spines above the rear screen, adjustable spoiler)

Whilst I was pretty interested to see the EVO pulling onto their driveway on the first day it has since become a dangerous nuisance. Every morning at around 7:30 he reverses out the driveway and gives it full beans past our house (in the opposite direction to the school), the exhaust is big enough to get your fist in and he has a chavtastic dump valve.

My neighbour, who is a total non-petrol head with two children under 5 went over at the weekend while the lad was out to say something to the parents. Their response was "we can hardly stop him enjoying the car he's worked so hard for, can we?"

This morning he did the usual morning routine, except he went to the extra effort of reving the nuts of it in the driveway first.

Dont get me worng, it is a great looking and sounding car, and really does shift! But excercising it in a narrow road near a school is a bit much. I dont know how fast he's going but I'd say he's ravving the nuts of it in 1st and 2nd before changing to third just after he passes our house - so it must be 60+mph in a 30mph area.

What is there that one can do to try and get the guy to drive a little more sensibly? I'm hoping the regular thrashing from cold will soon see the engine fail, but until then it is really rather annoying.

The noise isnt really a problem to me, its the outright dangerous driving that is.

well by going to the parents first, your neighbour has ed it all up!! he will never listen to any of you now as you did not treat him as a grown up and go to him first! maybe if you had done this first you might have had some joy! unlucky.

How about an old push chair holding a doll liberally doused in ketchup (or pigs blood) pushed into the road at the right second as this lout performs his antics. That should put the shits up him and a nice dent in the front of his chavmobile.

If it's an FQ400 (carbon spines) and not a dressed up 320 it'll be on a 6000 mile service interval (or is it even less) so it won't be long before he grenades it if he rags the nuts off it from cold. Perhaps suggest a modicum of mechanical sympathy as a way of getting round an awkward moment talking to him about his driving.

SWMBO said the same, actually. The lad looks to be about 19 and clearly has at least half a brain to have a job that pays enough to afford such a car (perhaps he's a postman?)

I would take the direct approach, freindly interest combined with a piss take bollocking, a thinly veiled threat, and then an olive branch.

"Ayup! stonking car that, etc etc. But why do you have to be such a knobber tazzing about the estate in it like that though? don't you care what everyone is saying about you? It's not 'have you seen that nice Evo?' but 'have you seen that tt in the Evo?' bit of a shame really, i'd be mortified myself if it were me gaining that sort of reputation around here, not to mention the increased risk of some sort of petty vandalism being done to the car. Anyway, take it easy around here will you. Now, have you heard of Pistonheads? fancy coming out on a proper hoon?".

Slightly more risky approach - spread the word to him that some of the residents on the street are thinking of asking the council to install traffic calming measures due to an increase in inappropriate speed. Now none of us want that to happen, do we ?

Just place the brick next to his wheel. If he revs it and does a racing start forwards or in reverse it'll bump the car up enough to make him censored himself, and hopefully not damage the car. There's no damage, and hopefully you won't be seen doing it! If he doesn't learn from it, then repeat the lesson in a few days time. And if he's going to blame anyone, it'll probably be your neighbour who's already complained smile.

The BiB idea is probably a more friendly and PC approach though. The thought of catching a speeding driver will have them scrapping in the cop shop as to who gets the easy 'kill' for this month's daft government target.

Some people might wait at the end of the road with their strobe gun pointed at him. Strobes do look a little like a radar gun from a distance.

Seen it done, but not by me!

P.S. It works!

I would have thought this was a perfect opportunity for a S56, I believe that's the correct number, where he gets a notice telling him if he's
naughty in the next year they'll take his car away for a bit
Sorry re-read the othert post. Should be S59 (section 59)
Well at least I checked.

One of my old neighbours used to really fly up the road to his house. I said to him one day that he'll do that and it'll either be his kid or one of the neighbours that he'll kill and then how's he gonna feel coming home each day.

He slowed down.

I wouldn't worry too much. It's an Evo FQ? It'll be nicked by the local scrotes before the month's out and be reversed into the nearest Dixons!

hehe
