Coming down the M6 a few days ago I noticed 2 sets of Specs cameras about 500m apart. They are southbound straight after Knutsford services.

The road was at a 70mph limit.

Does anyone know if they are live? Or are they just there in preparation for more roadworks and a 50 limit?

There's actually five of them between J20 and J17 (that's how many I counted on Monday morning).

There is also a few northbound as I saw 2 on Friday. There may be more now though as one looked incomplete with new concrete around the base.

Don't know if they are active or not yet, but I played safe by removing my number plate*

Unfortunately they are right in front of either bridges, gantry signs or matrix displays - which makes seeing them so easy - not!

I have noticed that they are all pointing to the outside lane so doing the ton-up in lane 1 should be fine - anyone want to test it?

Deltaf will your ladders reach the top of a specs camera or will a bonfire at the base suffice?

* only kidding, I wouldn't dream of doing something like that!

They were definatly there, no mistake.
The last one was at a very strange angle which leads me to believe that they were not set up yet. I do hope so, or I too will have had my license soiled

Or maybe the roadworks were set up after I went passed?
Looked at my map, its between j19 and j18 southbound that I saw them.

Are you talking about GATSO's or Specs? I know there are a few sets of lines but no actual cameras on that stretch but did not count 5 sets, only 2!

There's SPECS in both directions there. Two sets of two cameras on either carriageway meaning 8 cameras in total. They have been there since last year. Dunno if they are working yet as I don't bother tanking it on the M-Way north of Birmingham anymore - not worth the risk.

Also, there's SPECS in the roadworks on the Thelwall Viaduct. These most definitely are working. You can see the cams on the reverse of the overhead sign gantries.

I know that the SPECS just south of Knutsford are new, I have driven that road regulary and only noticed them a few days ago. Please tell me I'm not going blind!

I think they are for an extension to the roadworks presently north of the ship canal.

They appear to put the cameras up well before they start the actual roadworks. Lets hope they don't switch them on until the roadworks starts.

I'm hoping the M6 north J25 ones weren't setup Friday 9:30pm. They could have been cheeky and set them to get the last 200m of the 50 limit, the last one pointing from inside the 70 limit to the 50 limit. Went back to check next day and there's a big contraflow there now.

Does specs still only have approval for covering one lane (in each direction) ?

Definitely SPECS - I only just spotted the first one, but then stayed in the inside lane at an indicated 55mph (50mph real speed) for the next few junctions and spotted four more. They were all very well camouflaged though with the blue post being hidden by either trees or another larger post behind it.

The lines have been there for months, but have only seen one Gatso in that time behind the bridge after J16 (northbound)

Do you think they might have moved them within the Manchester region ... I'm sure I didn't see the small cams on those gantries that were on the M62 between J18ish (Middleton) and J20ish (Rochdale) last time I went through. They were the ones on the 50 limit roadworks for the last 6 months or so and I think they've disappeared.

Hi All,
I also travel that section of the M6 most weeks.
The specs are new and have been placed on site for the intended roadworks between J18 & 19.
Some of the cameras do not appear to be working yet.
The Gatso marking do NOT have a live camera with them. They have been there for over a year.
Cheers

Spotted these on Friday, unfortunately in fairly heavy and brisk traffic and I only spotted the first as I was almost on it at 65ish. No road works there, just cones in the reservation. Cue a couple of weeks letterbox monitoring.

These seem to be SPECS, but the light mounted on them were flashing. Why? Do SPECS only monitor speed between successive cameras, or can you get a ticket from just the first?

They measure the average speed between two cameras, thay can measure speed from just one unit.
