I’ve just come off the phone from a friend (ex-friend?! ) of mine who’s taken a job with a new speed camera initiative in one of the home counties. Obviously I made it clear to him that I don’t agree with that type of thing but couldn’t put my point across too strongly as I am happy he has found a new job.

Anyway the interesting part is that he says this council and the local police force have been in disagreement about the location of the new scameras. The police wanted to put them in accident blackspots, whereas the council wanted to install them in locations which will produce maximum revenue. Fortunately the police won the argument – not that putting them in accident blackspots will help anything but it’s better than the council’s plan.

I know we all know councils are money grabbing ba$tards. But I thought it was interesting to have this view confirmed by somebody actually working on a scamera project!

Why don’t they just scrap the scameras and put council tax up if they are so desperate for cash?

Would be good if your friend could somehow manage to lose any documents relating to speed cameras in which said council stated they didnt want speed cameras in black spots, and they found there way to a news paper.

Then again it dosnt matter does it were ruled by muppets who dont give a fcuk

Council's being money-grabbing under the guise of doing good. Now there's a surprise.

Don't go off your pal, TSS, he could provide some very useful info for the battle.

Careful not to drop him in it, of course............

Unlikely unfortunately. He seems to have been brainwashed by the scamera people into thinking that persecuting the motorist is a good idea. He never used to think like that

(Maybe scamera teams chloroform new employees and implant a chip in their brains).

so they have brain washed him ! Thats good he will be easy to manipulate.

Just pretend your one of these freaks and pretend you think there a good idea.

He will then give us lots of insider info

Just had a thought Do the cameras all use the same key to get in the back to change the film?

steel his keys and carry a lump of clay in your pocket

Unfortunately this kind of attitude is something that I have come across. I have spoken to a few local BiB and they concur with this - they make recommendations and they are ignored by the council because it wouldnt generate enough revenue or that a councilor doesnt live on that road...

Alternatively when the council go to the Police, the police usually say no, because there is no benefit for the siting of a scamera in that proposed location. However, the council ignore the advice and put one there anyway.... Kinda makes a mokery of the whole situation as, lets be honest here, the police really should be in a position to know best....

But it seems that the jumped up little hitlers in our local councils have the power to do what they please.... and to make a profit to fun their own mortgages and fund raising efforts....

Cheers,

Paul

Yes, worked in Local Authority Highways Depts for 15 years. There are jumped up little hitlers there, just the same as everywhere else in life.
Unfortunately it's a shit job, like walking through treacle most of the time, you get to meet all kinds of jumped up/boring/miserable people who are either "waiting for God" or just looking to make life as difficult and dreary as possible for everyone else.
Apparently it's worse now than when I was there (1973 to 1988)

Interesting thread - if I ask my Local Council (now would that be Borough or County or both?)for the details of camera installations over, say, the last two years and in how many cases the sites were supported/opposed by the BiB will I get an answer do you think?

Madcop, if I asked the ame question to the Chief Constable would I be likely to get an answer?

Seems to me the info should be available in a democracy - OK you can all stop laughing now.

I do know, but I hope you will understand if I don’t say. I expect these forums are monitored to some extent by the scamera teams and I wouldn’t want to give any information which could be used to identify who my friend is.
