I saw a fully marked Nissan Micra ('52 reg-old shape)the other day in Crook, County Durham.

It did provide us with a laugh I have to say! No camera with me at the time otherwise I would have posted a pic of it. Tiny little 3 door, still it made the blue light on top look huge

Maybe they borrowed it from the Tellytubbies.
we couldn't see the officer(s), we think they were probably

Has anyone else seen laughable, er I mean 'different' patrol cars about?

There used to be an old shaped Mini in Pwhelli (N Wales) which was fully decked out.

Often made me giggle

Not a funny car, but whilst visiting friends near Chichester about 3 years ago there was a fully marked up Porsche Carrera. The only thing funny about it I suppose is if theres a car chase! (good luck Mr Criminal). This may be common but its the first and last time I have ever seen such a high profile car being used.

Still, somebody has to do it

Once saw a fully "Jam-Buttied" Aston Martin DB7 trundling through Durham city centre. The funny thing about that was the look on the coppers' faces when they got it stuck between the kerbs in a particularly narrow street!

Cue one order for 4 new alloy wheels from Co. Durham police to the boys in Newport Pagnell.

I'm sorry, but this really annoys me. How can plod possibly defend spending this amount of cash! - you cannot tell me that a liveried aston at 80 odd grand does the work of 3 liveried T5's

[cynic]
if you could choose your company car, you'd bloody well drive an aston as well
[/cynic]

whatever happened to prudent spending?

madcop will probably tell me that they borrow these cars....in which case fair enough ...but I don't think they do, what would be in it for the manufacturer?

Minimax, what's more, you'll notice I said it was "trundling through Durham city centre." i.e. not blasting up and down the A1 on high-speed pursuit duty, but posing around the cobbled streets of a mediaeval city centre, presumably for the benefit of all the student girles.

So I suppose that rather than doing the work of 3 T5s, it was actually doing the work of 6(?) Astras/Corsas etc.

Most of the 'exotic' cars are demos given to the police on a Free trial usually 18months.
My Girlfriend used to work for Daewoo who supplied the local force with Matiz's and Korandos on trials.
Porsche, Lotus, Aston Martin and Jaguar have all got trial cars out there at the moment, many forces dont buy them due to the public image, as one of you said, an £80K car is unjustified, why do the police entertain free trials? simple cause there FREE!.
I believe theres now some Harley Davidsons going on trials in the midlands on a trial period.
