Following car down slip road a few seconds back, but going too slowly (imho).

Enter motorway, they are accelerating slowly, L2/3 clear, accelerate to L3 hard and car ahead is slowly ambling across lanes infront of me, still indicating and just as I come level with their rear bumper they are 6-8in into my lane (I'd already assumed they might and lifted), so I brake firmly to let them over as they check their side mirror.
They don't move into L3, they move back to L2 and then throw an egg salad sandwich at me.
Then they shake their fist at me lots.

I pass in L3 just so I don't have to put up with any silly games and he's pointing at his eyes as I pass and shaking a fist, so I just laugh back (I know I shouldn't rise to it, but I'd just spent 100ml of windscreen wash removing flies etc so gutted there is now half a sarnie in my wipers). Maybe he was saying 'I'd seen you' but I like to think he was too busy eating his manky sandwich and drifted into my lane. I'm glad I stopped anyway.

After 2 miles I pull off the motorway, he's in L2 still, and still has his RH indicator on from entering the motorway as I go down my sliproad!

So, it was a trade car, have the plate and company. Do I write a witty email to their business, or just inform plod?

It doesn't really bother me, but had this been a young woman and got that abuse so 'quickly' I worry how much rage he gives others, or if there was a biker or convertible and that food had hit them instead, it could have been a bit worse on a motorway!

What to do.

When I get cut up by trade vehicles I nearly always phone the company up and complain. Its happened a couple of times, the last time the person who answered sounded completely unsurprised.

I like to think that I'm helping such idiots get the sack.

I'd phone the company and the police, chucking something at your car when you're driving is just plain dangerous.

Yes I tend to phone trade companies. Sometimes of course its a one man band in which case you get a whole load of abuse!

However sometimes you get a sympathetic response. If drivers were more considerate to each other live would be a lot better.

Write a letter of complaint to the company. Decent companies hate complaints about their staff. Don't make it witty, sound serious.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the police, unless they actually witness it I doubt they'll be interested.

Not sure if it's a big company, www.irmarble.co.uk local to my area it seems.

Ah well, worse things have happened at sea. Might give them a bell later on just to say, but am ready for some flak.

Not that fussed from what happened to me, I anticipated and gave way/room, just what happens when it's someone else who ends up on the receiving end and he gets all angry, say at a junction or something and he gets out frown

Had a gentleman (ha, I use the term VERY loosely) throw a milkshake at my windscreen, and then him and his mate threaten me in front of a policeman. Policeman asked me what action I thought I wanted him to take - I said it was assault and possibly more, at which point he said there's not a lot of point and that he'd make a note but we should all be on our way...so the chances of police doing anything are somewhere between no hope and Bob Hope IMHO.

Call the firm, ask to speak to their fleet manager.

I'm amazed (not really, but there you go) at how often the reaction from someone who is wholly in the wrong and has just been "caught out" -- ie has just realised they are in the wrong -- is indignant anger at the innocent party.

(Yeah - I'd seen you anyway)
(You didn't think I hadn't noticed, you w*nker) etc etc.

I drove across someone this morning - not entirely intentionally - which they might have thought was cutting them up (a lawyer might argue I had right of way, but whatever). My reaction was to wave an apology, which seemed to diffuse any developing situation.

Agree totally - I cut up an MGF the other month near scumhampton - waved an apology as I'd come off the sliproad and he'd ended up in my blindspot (my fault 100%). Luckily I always indicate when changing lane so he saw me coming across him.

I think you get the agro because other people don't like to be criticised - after all, most of us are the best drivers on the road aren't we wink - best never to get involved in coffee bean exchanges as they end up distracting one from the task in hand...

Hehe, no we are not perfect.

Problem I have was if slowing down to 'give way' to him even though it was my right of way was me critizing him then I wonder how he'd react to a flash of the lights hehe

Probably had a bad morning, just got onto motorway, bitten into his egg sandwich while going L1>L2 and realised the egg was off, and realised he drifted into L3 at the same time he decided to rid himself of the sarnie hehe

Send them an e-mail asking if their driver would like to collect his lunch from the windscreen of your car.

What should you do - well, you've got the company name, and phone number, and the name of the Managing Director. Easy.

What will you do - ah well, thats a different matter...

Dave, when i read your name as the poster and the title "Sandwiched" i thought you might be selling some cheap bits after breaking your pug for spares! wink

However, vulture mode switched off, i think a carefully worded email or a phone call to the company sounding very serious should do the trick.

What car was he in? Was it a run of the mill company hack? If so, unlikely to be the MD, they usually drive exec cars if they are doing well enough! lol

Of course, could be a one-man-band and you could get some abuse, so make sure you with=hold your number!

It was a small slow diesel Fiesta MK6 van...

Will probably fill in their customer form on their website, asking if they always give out free sandwiches on motorways, and that I don't think the delivery method worked well for encouraging business to their advertised web address posted on the car.

Dave - don't waste your time with the customer form. Not all MDs have time to read them.

You've got his name from the website, give him a call (don't tell the first lackey who answers the phone what its about, they won't put you through).

Trust me on this - very very few men at the top like MOP giving them ear ache, they pay minions to take the crap, so get throught to him. That way there is a small chance he will kick ass.

What have you got to lose.

I did that once, using the number signwritten on a van that had tried to run me off the road, and the bloke that answered said; 'tell you what, give us your name and address and we'll come round and give you a good hiding'!

Wow, almost got done again today.

This time I think the van driver was simply oblivious to everyone, same slip road, down the middle, swerving, thought to get past and on my way, but trucks were in L1/2 so went to L2 swiftly but he got ahead so I stayed back as he sat waiting to get into L3 and a Volvo estate in L3 didn't 'slow down' to let the van in.

At this stage a sarnie flies out of his nearside window (looks bit, like fresh kebab big), so maybe his passenger, and nearly hits a truck in L1 and me in L2, van driver then finally gets into L3 and sits literally 1ft off the Volvo bumper flashing his lights on full beam repeatedly.

WHY is the world full of these bellends? We wonder why our government is anti-car sometimes, and it can't help that we have these idiots lowering the average perception by a huge degree.

Not sure whether to just ring Plod. Littering into path of other vehicles, tailgating agressively, ignorant lane discipline... don't care if they do nothing but it'd be nice if they did. I see people do things wrong every day, I probably drive far from perfectly, but knowingly being an idiot and purposely driving badly and agressively is just a different kettle of fish!

Got the van VRM, telephone number (freephone) and company name again smile
