Noticed new camera on A21 (as I passed at a shade over the limit).

Seemed to have a large red lense, but didnt flash

Any ideas?

Its a truvelo. Works by facing the vehicle and taking a picture of the Vehicle, VRN and the driver, by using a infrared flash gun as not to distract the driver. The camera film is sensitive to infrared the reflected light provides the film with the correct exposure.

The Piezo Road Strips are a known distance apart, and the time between compression's is measured to give the resulting speed of the vehicle. The system takes four readings on a two axle vehicle and uses the average time for compression's to calculate the resulting speed.

How over the limit were you? Assuming its a 70mph road?

Where abouts on the A21....As you head south from London how close is it to the hill of the T wells turn?
I went that way about 11.00am today and the Road Angel never uttered a single beep...I missed it..
Fortunately in the Morgan so wouldn't have been driving any more than 80-85, as with the roof & doors off it feels like 150mph!!

It's on the left hand side just as you start to go up the hill that has the Southborough turn-off on it.

I spotted it last week when in the Noble and yes, I had to anchor down pretty smartish

There is a white line across the road in front of the camera, and the cut up tarmac (presumably where the piezo strips were laid) is about a metre ahead of that.

I presume that it doesn't decide to take a picture until it's measured your speed i.e. when you're about 10 metres away from it. It is highlighted orange and not hidden behind a sign, so we've all got plenty of time to slow down

There are 5 camera warning signs before you get there so no excuse for getting caught. Its on the Tonbridge by-pass, i.e. further north than Tunbridge Wells.

Maybe camera warning signs are different in kent, but in Surrey they put them anywhere within the radius of the camera rather than on the specific road, so they are as much use as a chocolate fire guard.

Yeah, went through there today. The warning signs are massive. Then the camera itself obscures the sign for the junction

Actually it's surprisingly fair play by the council (as far as scameras can be 'fair play' of course). The warning signs were put up at least a couple of weeks before the camera went up.

Of course warning signs often don't relate to the road you're on, but it at least made me more alert.

There's a layby right next to the camera, wonder if anyone's brave enough to pop down at 2am and torch the ****er?

I went that way yesterday to have a look and in theory it should catch nobody! With 4 or 5 enormous warning signs within a mile or two of it there really is no excuse.

I still think its in the wrong place however its not a sneaky camera!

CALLING ALL BIKERS!

Fancey a journey up to Tunbridge Wells?

A few hundred bikers going through it at trigger speed face on should waste a few £££ of scamera fund!

As I was walking up to the camera the police drove past, and if you look at the picture on the right hand side (London bound carriageway) there where coming back the other way. Out for a Sunday drive I think
