A mate of mine has just received a NIP stating he was doing 41 in a 30, unfortunately it says the offence took place in Bradford and he lives and works in Andover (Hampshire).

Neither he nor the car have ever been to Bradford so it looks like the NIP has his reg number in error.

Any suggestions as to the best way for him to sort this error out?

ask for evidence, ie a photo. Hopefully that will prove it isn't him. also provide some evidence he wasn't there, ie a credit card receipt around the time of the offence or something like that.

If you can get a photo of the alleged incident, it might be worth reporting to the police if somebody has cloned his car?

Similar problem with my cousin recently. He requested the photo evidence and the car in question had a different colour bonnet to his (he'd changed his but not sprayed it after some vandalising). He wrote back to suggest he may have had his car cloned with a police incident number, he has received a letter back thanksing him for prociding evidence that his car was not in the area. He was rather fortunate though, he works in a local supermarket that showed his car on CCTV going into the car park 40 minutes before the "offence" that occured 300 miles away.

does sound like a cloned car or plate. Had that with my mums car once, police turned up to advise me it had been found in a field in Wales after being involved in an "incident" - which was odd as it was in my garage in 100 different pieces at the time. Just give the police a call and tell them you believe your plates are being used in that area for a starter.
