Can someone possibly explain this?
In the town where I work there is a pedestrian crossing manned by a lolipop lady who just stands there all day and presses the button when somebody walks up, and frowns at passing traffic at all other times.
The nearest school is about 2 miles away.
Why?!?

My mum is officially clasified as blind (though not totally) so I have an understanding on these things. But, got chatting to a chap in a wheelchair who lost it with those stupid nobbly bits near the crossings....
Sounds daft, but in a wheelchair it hurts like hell going over those nobbly bits all of the time.... Great for the blind and hard of sight, but everyone else less-able is peed off....
Sounds like a classic case of the lobby group for the blind won, while the lobby group for the rest werent as good....
Makes you think though
Cheers,
Paul

Accessibility for people with disabilities is a legal requirement in new buildings. I can't imagine there's any sense in making special lifts _without_ Braille for car parks.

Think of the logic. If they are blind they can't drive so why would they be on the 4th floor of a multi story ? If they were a passenger one would expect whoever parked the car they were in of being capable of pressing the button. As for the costs involved my company does actually supply a couple of lift companys with sheet metal work. Off of one of the big manufacturers like Otis you actually but a shell scheme basic lift each installation is then custom fit which generally includes control panels.
Anyway it was the logic of it that made me chuckle and the image of a labrador driving a Mondao
