Owing to the ever-increasing number of mobile traps, I'm seriously thinking of getting a jammer. What is the current legal status of these things? What is the police's attitude (Madcop?). Are you safe if you slow down and switch it off as soon as you know you have been painted?

As far as im aware, its legal to own a jammer.
Im not too sure about the legality of operating it though.
Possibility of perverting the course of justice..blah de blah and all that, and interefering with an officer (ooerr ) in the course of his duties.
MC can advise better than moi tho

The only reported arrest was a last year when a Welsh lad took the piss and "attacked" a Talivan several times. Police made a lot of noise about charging him with perverting the course of justice, and madcop (I think) suggested police obstruction would be more appropriate.

A sergeant from another force was quoted saying that the lad was cautioned and sent away.

This fits, because there have been no press reports about a court case. Had there been one, certain police officers and the DfT would, no doubt, have made a meal of press releases.

If you get a jammer, be aware that it will only protect front or rear. If you want to protect your nether regions, you'll have to splash out on two units.

There is no law that presently bans them. HMG proposed one a while ago, but it was so badly drafted that they dropped it and there has been no Parliamentary time to reintroduce it yet. The proposal was to ban all detectors and jammers.

Over the water in Euroland, the story is very different and, if les flics catch you, they nail your feet to the ground, torch your car and throw your granny into the canal with conctete boots.
