Just saw a car get flashed going the "wrong" way through a gatso ie driving towrds the lens. i assume said driver will be immune from any prosecution as i (think??) they are not certified to work on both lanes of traffic.

I have done this on occasion (over the posted limit) and have never been flashed. is this just a freak incident?

You've not been going fast enough! There's a camera on the seafront near Brighton marina in a 50mph limit that is constantly activated by cars screaming along in the opposite direction. I guess that's what happens when you drop the limit down from NSL on a straight piece of dual carriageway. I've seen more accidents at the camera site then anywhere else on that stretch. Nearly had one myself last week when the car in front assumed it was a 30 limit and slammed on the brakes, but that's another rant.

It happened to me many years ago, on the way to the airport at five am on a very deserted country road. I'd only picked the car up the day before and it sneaked up towards 50 in a 40 limit. I was almost level with the camera when the second flash went off, so I would have been surprised if they got that image. Never heard anything more though.

Yep there really are some stupid scameras in Brighton. Only one I "approve of" is the one on Ditchling Rd outside Varndean School - its right outside, and it does make sure people are going slowly.

Of course when I get back from dropping people off at 1am its a bit pointless, but probably worth it if it stops some kiddy getting run over during the day wink

Glad other people have see this happen... I hadn't until an hour ago. I was going past a Gatso at 27-29mph (I was checking my speedo as I approached!) when I got nearly to the end of the road markings a car shot past in the opposite direction doing at least 50mph. The Gatso flashed but I am sure he was past the camera by the second flash - I was still just within the markings and I'm 99% certain I hadn't inadvertently crept up over 30mph between the camera and the end of the markings. So, it must have been the other driver blatantly speeding in the 'wrong' direction that triggered it.

I think this is quite common, there's one in Brum that does this regularly when I drive past

It happened to me about 2 months ago. I was doing close to 50 in a 50 limit and the Gatso on the other side of the dual carriageway, 30 limit, flashed as I went past, no other cars in-sight and no lines on the road on my side of the dual carriageway.
No nip yet.

Can`t believe the question or the answers posted. Gatsos only work on the rear of the car. People like you cause accidents by braking hard for a camera which is facing the wrong way.

Driving past them the "wrong" way will give you some idea of the trigger speed, but you will not get a ticket.
