Destroying Gatso's?
Discussion
Not being up on the concept of the diesel engine, I'm a bit puzzled. I thought diesel fuel didn't burn, but went bang under compression?
Am I wrong?
Don't think you can pop a tyre round one of those big boxes. The photos I've seen depict a tyre cut in half and slung under the camera with a wire loop.
Never thought I'd condone vandalism but, in this case, I'm sure the people who paid for them, with their sixty quids, will have no objection to the destruction of something they didn't really want to buy..........................

Theoretically speaking (cos ya cant condone it), the tyre could be placed against the front of the box and supported on the tube that sticks out. The tyre is filled with petrol as it's volatile and the rest is left to the perp's discretion.
As a totally law-abiding and upstanding citizen, i couldnt condone this kind of action by anyone, it would appear to be dangerous to the camera and also the perp! I wouldnt suggest any one try it.

A saucer is probably too small. Back when I was a student, I had a job working for a construction company in Australia. We used to use diesel to light piles of trees that we had chainsawed down. (I had a diesel tank on the back of my truck, with a hand-pumped hose

it will not light, remeber diesel would actually start to freeze in winters gone by,
) Diesel does light, it just takes a short while - but once it is lit, it's a good 'un
Unlike petrol, pumping diesel into a fire doesn't necesarily lead to a big explosion
Surely grinding a V-shaped cut in the side of the pole and allowing the device to topple over, whilst public-spiritedly shouting "Timber" in a lumberjack kinda way would be more effective....and more environmentally friendly than setting light to it.
This way the device can be recylced and used as a bird table in your garden for example......and you get the benefit of regular in-flight snaps of the local bird population and a useful aid for the pursuit of ornothology.

because they will use the camera unit again - best bet is to put it out of action

Not whilst our feathered friends are nesting in it they won't
