Belgian police cash in on traffic fines............
Discussion
Seems it's not just here, Although methinks they need some 'tutoring' on how to spend the revenue..........

"Traffic police in Belgium are making so much money in fines they are having to invent new ways of spending it.
In the first eight months of this year, police in Flanders collected €100 million (£68 million) in traffic fines, compared with €40 million in the whole of last year.
The money is distributed to police for road safety projects. But if they fail to come up with ideas, the revenue can be used in a variety of other ways.
This has led to one force in Bruges spending some of the cash on 6,000 lottery tickets for drivers who complied with traffic regulations, although it is not clear if anyone profited through their careful driving.
Another used the revenue to buy cuddly toys for children in road accidents, while one station bought 10 motorcycles, even though none of its officers were qualified to ride them and they are now unused.
A federal police spokesman said the increase in cash from fines was down to more speed cameras and better enforcement.
"It's slightly embarrassing having so much money that I have to admit we're running out of ways to spend it," he said."

How about spending this absurd amount of money on policing the sh!theads who drive below the speed limit, but like a twunt?
I know that this thread refers to Belgium, but similar profits must be being made over here.
Last evening I was driving my wife's 1.4 Clio to collect our elderly aunt to take her to a wedding reception. I became stuck behind the most unbelievably p!ss-poor driver I have ever encountered.
From every junction, he pulled out like a snail, it took him at least 200 metres to accelerate and he kept 5 to 10 mph under the speed limit - even in a 30. A Toyota Supra between he and I made several attempts to pass him, during which he would swerve right to block the overtake whilst raising his fist at the Supra driver (this all occured on urban roads with very limited passing opportunities). Eventually the Supra just blasted past him, horns and lights going, as we had put up with this cretinous behaviour for over twenty minutes. I broke the Law to pass him by sitting in a turn-right lane at traffic lights and blasting off as hard as I could as the lights went green (no mean feat in a car with supposedly 100 BHP, but about 23 ft.lb. of torque...)
I have no idea why this feckwit was driving as he was, but he was causing a traffic problem just by being on the road and, as far as 'safety cameras' were concerned, he was a model driver.
I have passed his vehicle details on to the local BiB, but I was told that "Whilst the driver in question was not exceeding the speed limit, views on his driving were purely personal opinions and it would be very difficult to prosecute..."

Some massive fines in Belgium ,, and they still all drive like total twunts

They would do better to spend the cash teaching the whole lot of them to drive properly.
With especial attention to use of their cruise controls as they seem to think this same as "auto-pilot"

Per article in their press ca 2004 - it seems Belgium did consider making cruise control "illegal" as these idiots were causing mega-pile ups by setting it und thinking it would stop automatically

(I thought it wind -up at first - but it was in the serious Belgian press

) Driving dire ? , have you seen the state of some of the "roads" . And the little man with the flag on the start of roadworks . A tailors dummy with a motor on the arm that raises and lowers a flag , wearing a set of orange hi-vis gear . Seem to see a lot of people ( M+F ) taking a leak at the side of the motorway. But saying all that the beer , chocs and frites are superb.

Yes, more proof that there is very little evidence of a link between speed and bad driving. It's just about money in every country where speed linits are invented and then enforced with financial penalities.Lostusernamedamn said:

Not been to Belgium, but Holland was an eye-opener (
).
Visited an old uni friend and her Dutch hubby...and oh my god I thought we were going to die on about 10 separate occasions during a <30min drive!!! Even scarier was he wasn't the worst driver on the road!!!
Indication? Nah...
Leave ANY gap? Why...wastes road space doesn't it!!!
Plan ahead? How...you can't see past the wall of cars!
NEVER, EVER living in Holland. I don't care HOW relaxed the laws and the society is, I'd have a coronary while driving through SHOUTING* at all the feckin' numpties on the roads.

you are right about the Cloggys but compared to the Belgians the Cheese eatters are pussy cats I got done for speeding in Belgium last week. I got caught by a speed gun (Didnt even spot it) for 145Kph in a 120 Zone. The thing is, the heavily laden van i was driving wouldnt even go 145kph, so i think they were averaging the speed upwards.
I got taken to a local police station to pay my (80 Euro) fine, On the officers screen i saw a speadsheet with about 50 entries, All of the cars on it were foreign, mostly British, They were doing people for 131Kph and above. So they must be making a small fortune!
Still i would prefer a fine and no points any day, and i did drive slower for the remainder of my trip (Ran out of Euros
)!
