Silly question. How do you keep your dogs cool in there all day? I cannot imagine that ventilator on the roof does a lot. Is the car/van converted to have continuous air con.

Just wondered.

The dogs have a prisoner's leg to chew on, it keeps their doggy minds off the heat.

most have run lock-where you can keep the engine running even when un-attended so the aircon can be left on

Most dog men I see leave the back tailgate up when they're parked in the station, nobody would try to get in and steal the car with one of those beasts in there. Sometimes run-lock is used too.

Thanks... But I thought it was illegal to leave a car running if unattended for a long period.

It is - most of those police dogs have 12 or 14 points on their licence which is why they have coppers to drive them around. . . . . . yes

My labrador has still got one, but when we exchanged the old green paper licence for a new photo one, it was a bugger getting him to sit still in the machine in Boots. . . . .

The kennels in the back have air con piped through from the front. There is also an intake /extractor fan in the roof.

The vehicles are fitted with engine run lock. If the engine is left running and the key is not in the ignition, if the vehicle is put into gear andthe clutch let out, the engine stakks. If you put your foot on the brake pedal, the engine cuts out. There is an exemption from 'quitting' (leaving it without a licence holder in or near it) a motor vehicle for emergency vehicles fitted with auxiliary equipment.

Hope that helps.

From what I've seen, dog handlers appear to have good relationships with their dogs. They don't seem to be the types that would let a dog go through any kind of discomfort or distress.

Absolutley, not to mention the time and money invested in them, it's not financially viable to kill them off.

Off topic
HATO vehicles have run-lock, but are not emergency vehicles. Is it legal to use?

I have asked that question before, and i was told it is because Horse shit is far 'cleaner' (less hazardous) that dog crap due to a horses diet.

This leads to me to my next question...are vegetarians allowed to crap in the street?

Ahh, that makes sense. Always fun wandering out of a football match half cut, hurdling the turds...(and I don't mean Chelsea fans either)

I have a friend who served in the Household Cavalry - and I've seen him doing his "Eating Horse Shit" party trick.

Oh! Those soldier guys!!!
